CHAPTER I
INTRODUCTION
Milk tea can refer to a variety of different teas and tea-based drinks from all over
the world. At its most simple, milk tea usually means a tea with milk in it - although how
these tasty beverages are prepared can vary from country to country and region to region
(Artful Tea, 2020). It originated in Taiwan and spread across the cities and suburbs of the
U.S. in the 1990s; however, it did not become popular until the 2000s (Chang, 2017). This
was the drink that have helped some Asian American youth to navigate the waters of
community identity.
The milk tea industry became popular as the competitive market brought more
innovations and viral trends which came up in 2018. According to Castro (2019), milk teas
are coming in arrays of ombrés and gradients, from Macao Imperial's adorable Kitten Milk
Tea to Ho Cha's Galaxy Milk Teas, milk tea was more than just for your palate; it was also

The business name Spill the tea: Have it your own way is a take of the popular
phrase “spill the tea” which defines as to share gossip or information with someone. Also,
the word “spell” suggests the ability of the customers to modify their drinks. It appeals to
be a catchy and remarkable catchphrase which aims to attract customers of certain ages
The spilling is a wordplay of the business name which resembles the popular
phrase “spill the tea” which means to share gossip or information to someone, while the
pencil symbolizes the ability of the customer to state their preference as denoted by the
use of the word spell. Also, it shows the product being sold which is the milk tea.

“To establish a taste preference towards milk tea”. It is the aim of the business to give
more freedom to the customers in modifying their drinks based on what they want it to be, with
starting this innovation, it is anticipated to be applied to other milk tea stores and be normalized.

“To provide the perfect milk tea and satisfy your cravings”. It is the honor of the store
to deliver drinks of the customer’s satisfaction, as it both have a physical store where customers

Owner
The most important person who holds the highest authority in making decisions for
the sake of the business. Taking charge of the operation and maintenance of the entire
establishment, it assures the safety of the workers and the customers as well.
Secretary
The right hand of the owner and next to the position with the authority to decide on
matters pertaining the business in the absence of the owner. Reporting directly about the

The person-in-charge for the sales of the store who is responsible for promoting
and selling the products by taking track of the daily, weekly, and monthly performances
of the business; suggesting strategies to improve how the products are being marketed.

Spill the tea: Have it your own way offers a variety of milk tea flavours; such as
classic, matcha, okinawa, wintermelon, taro, thai tea, caramel, chocolate, mocha, honey
dew, choco mouse, toffee nut, cookies & cream, tiramisu, and mocha fudge. The store
provides a selection of four (4) sizes; small (S), medium (M), large (L), and extra-large

Strengths
Milk tea is known as a refreshing beverage which comes with a very affordable
price that is one of the reasons why it rose in popularity. Also, it can be served in a matter
of minutes as preparation of this product is fast and efficient with the use of equipment
