Chapter 4

Results

This chapter presents the result of the data after the study conducted. This study aimed to

determine the preferred strategies to catch the attention of BSMT students during class hours.

Descriptive Data Analysis

Table 1 shows that the top three strategies to catch the attention of BSMT students during class

hours when taken as an entire group. It was found out that the strategies that the students prefer to catch

ttheir attention are the use of the audio-visual material related to instruction to write pop quiz (f=106,

96.36%, rank=1), use of power point presentation (f=95, 86.36%, rank 2), and begin the lesson exercise

(f=94, 85.45%, rank 3).

In contrast, when classified according to their year level, the following are the top three preferred

strategies to catch the attention of BSMT students during class hours by first year students were the use

of audio-visual material related to instruction to write pop quiz, begin lesson exercise, require online

readings (f=19, 95%, rank 1), Involve students in discussion, use video within his/her presentation, give

relevant jokes, use power point presentation (f=18, 90%, rank 2), acquaint students with information, put

humorous drawings on the board (f=17, 85%, rank 3).

Further, the following are the top three preferred strategies to catch the attention of BSMT

second year students were the use of audio-visual material related to instruction to write pop quiz (f=39,

97.5%, rank 1), establishing the routine, task and time-limit (f=38, 95%, rank 2), and acquaint students

with information (f=36, 90%, rank 3).

Furthermore, the following are the top three preferred strategies to catch the attention of BSMT

third year students were the use of audio-visual material related to instruction to write pop quiz (f=48, 96%,

rank 1), require online readings, use power point presentation (f=44, 88%, rank 2), involve students in

role playing, use music in presentation. (f=43, 86%, rank3).
