As a future teacher, I must be reliable, intelligent and innovative because I want to

be an effective teacher to my students as much as possible. I must be more reliable

because I want my students to know that there is always a teacher who will help

them whenever they need some emotional help, I must be more as intelligent as

possible because I want them to learn more about mathematics without any

misconceptions and lastly I must improve my innovative skill in order to adapt to

the different needs of my students.

Mr Soriano is intelligent, reliable and fair. He is a good example and a role model

OBSERVATION OF THE TEACHER AND RESPONSES

Private (La Salle College Antipolo)

Mr. Lumawag always starts his lesson with a prayer and after that answering

the assignment given before the meeting. His teaching approach to his students is

very learner-centered because he allows his students to analyse and solve problems

on their own by guiding them to a certain concept of mathematics. He is very

energetic and his students enjoy his discussion of the topic. His teaching approach

is so appealing for the students that they are active in answering his questions.

Moreover, he also provides equal opportunities to his students by calling out all

their names and giving chance to all students to share their knowledge and ideas to

the class.

Public (San Jose National High School)

Mr. Soriano is teaching in an STE class, his teaching approach to them is

very unique because he utilizes several instruments and modules to facilitate the

learning of his students. He always start his lessons with prayer followed up by

answering the assignments and letting his students explain their answers. After that

he starts the new topic with a game and then proceeds to the introduction and

discussion of mathematical concepts to his students. Then the assigned groups will

answer the given modules for them to present it in class. His teaching approach

makes the learning environment of his students learning conducive and also fun

because it involves activities that integrates mathematics, games and group

presentations that students enjoy.

CLASS PROGRAM

In Mr. Lumawag the class always starts with a prayer and then proceeds to

the answering of assignments by letting his students present their answers. Then

proceed to discussion of the topic and clarifications. After that students will have

an activity by choosing a partner in answering the seatwork. Lastly the students

together with Mr. Lumawag answer the seatwork for checking and end of the

lesson.

While in Mr. Soriano’s class starts with a unique greeting from the class

and then proceeds with a prayer. Before the start of the lesson the students will

present first their answers in their assignment for checking. Then the teacher starts

the lesson with a game and then proceeds to the discussion of the topic. After that

the students will go to their assigned groups to answer the modules given to them

by Mr. Soriano after 5-10 minutes students will be asked to present their answer

through a group presentation. Lastly the teacher gives his comments and ends the

discussion.

OBSERVATIONS IN ACTIVITY

Mr. Lumawag gives activity by partner for them to help each other in

answering and presenting the activity. The activity questions are presented on the

board through the projector. After that the teacher proceeds to the checking of the

answers by asking volunteer partners to answer an activity question on the board

and lets the other groups check their own answers.

While Mr. Soriano gives activities by using different kinds of instruments

and modules. His students plays games on a LCD TV and his smart phone. In

addition, he also gives activities by group and makes them answer word problems

through acting and presenting it to class. His activities always have modules for the

students to answer. His quizzes are answered individually by students.

Brgy. San Luis

La Salle College Antipolo is located 500 meters away from Brgy. San Luis

Municipal Hall. The barangay hall of San Luis is 1500 kilometers away from the

city proper. According to Ms. Ethyleah, their barangay has an estimated population

of 92,000+ and an estimated total of 19,000 households. The barangay is

constituted if Uplands, Lowlands and Mountains. There are also facilities present

in the barangay such as schools, community center, health center, market, chapel,

dringking water and electricity supply and reading center. The agricultural

resources of barangay San Luis are cornfields, coconut and fruit trees, bananas and

root crops. There are stores and trading centers present in the barangay. Moreover,

there are programs being held in the barangay such as festival, search for Miss

Barangay, Christmas celebrations, Brigada eskwela, clean and green Gulayan ng

Bayan and Peace and Order that makes the barangay entertaining and united.

Brgy. San Jose

San Jose National High School is located beside the Barangay San Jose which is

why the distance between them is 100 m. Barangay San Jose has a total of

population of 103,051 and 20,000 households. The barangay has facilities such as

community center, plaza, health center, church, electricity and water supply,

reading center and I.T center. It is made up of lowlands,uplands, and mountains. It

agricultural resources are rice fields, fruit trees, bananas, forest trees, root crops and

livestocks. Stores, fastfood chains and restaurants are also present. The programs

for development of the barangay are Brigada Eskwela, Clean and Green, Gulayan

ng Bayan and Peace and Order. The annual activities are Fiestas, Festivals

Christmans Celebration, Youth Assembly and Senior Citizen Month for it citizens.

MY LEARNING PORTFOLIO

The teacher that I interviewed is an outstanding teacher in my community.

Purification Montines is a high school and college teacher for 42 years. Her major

is Mathematics and she started teaching in high school since 1976 and began

teaching college students in 2002. She took education as a profession because it is

her passion since she was a child. The things that she doesn’t forget about teaching

is the students who are lazy and irritating who comes to visit her or go back to their

school. She also doesn’t like the system of education today because the students

tend to lack discipline and are easily distracted due to the teachers having

restrictions by the DepEd to discipline their students unlike the old days.

NARRATIVE 1: CLOSE ENCOUNTER WITH A BEGINNING

PROFESSIONAL TEACHER (1 – 3 YEARS)

Mr. Patrick Cultura graduated on La Salle College Antipolo, 3 years ago of

the school year 2016-2017. His college prepared him through field study because

he is exposed in real life situations and interactions between teachers and students.

He passed the licensure exam for teachers last year with rating of 90.2. He started

his professional career in La Salle and he is doing his job well. Mr. Cultura is also

a Member of the Mathematical Society of the Philippines, He likes to set boundaries

to his students and he dreams of someday helping indigenous people.

NARRATIVE 2: CLOSE ENCOUNTER WITH A YOUNG

PROFESSIONAL TEACHER (4 – 10 YEARS)

Ms. Gelome Agpaso Dizon is satisfied with her chosen profession because

it helps her in financial matters and also she teaches and learns at the same time.

The thing that makes her happy is spending time, knowledge and effort to her

students and to know that her students are learning. However, she is sad when her

students are having difficulty in learning the topic. Her most unforgettable moment

is when she received an award in the 2018 teacher’s day. She plans to spend the

rest of her life teaching because for her she is destined to teach and she plans to

retire as a teacher because of her love and passion to teach.

NARRATIVE 3: CLOSE ENCOUNTER WITH A MENTOR/MASTER

TEACHER (11 – 15 YEARS)

Mr. Lumawag doesn’t consider himself a mentor because the school only

has two new math teachers and their schedule is different from his. He is also not

satisfied because he doesn’t have a lot of conversation with them yet. But he is

happy to guide young teachers in their lesson plan. However, he is ad when he can’t

relate to younger teachers. He thinks that young teachers today are more aggressive

different from his time. Moreover, Mr. Lumawag wants to finish his MA and he

also got service awards. In addition, he doesn’t care about his position he just wants

to be happy.

NARRATIVE 4: CLOSE ENCOUNTER WITH A EXPERT/STERLING

TEACHER (15 YEARS AND ABOVE)

Mr. Joseph Armia is satisfied in his career as a teacher because it is his

source of living. He is happy when his students are learning and sad when they

don’t. His most unforgettable moment is when he was assigne to create questions

for an inter-Lasalle quiz bee. Moreover, form hi he is just starting to make a

contribution in mathematics and that he want to finish his MA. According to Mr.

Armia, La Salle College Antipolo does not promote teachers but appoints them in

their positions.

NARRATIVE 5: CLOSE ENCOUNTER WITH A RETIRED TEACHER

Mrs. Eutropia Raganit is a retired teacher. Her daily activities after she

retires is helping her nieces and nephews and voluntary work. Her past teaching

experiences were memorable especially when she taught in high school and earned

her master’s degree. In her years of teaching he saw her students grow and make

friends. For her teachers has the greatest profession since without teachers there

will be no globally competitive professionals. Her advice to future teachers is to be

motivated in everything that they do.
