What is sentence? Types?

A sentence is a word or group of words that must expresses a complete idea or sense or meaning
and that may consist of a subject and a verb. Or, whenever we see a full stop or any other
sentence ending punctuation, the immediately precedes parts is called sentence.
Example: The sun rose and the fog dispersed. (সাধারণত সূর্ য উঠলে কুয়াশা কালে)
Sentence are 4 types:
 Simple sentence (only one independent clause/one subject+ finite verb)
Example: I always wanted to become a writer. (One clause – one verb)
 Compound sentence (more than one independent /main clause and Some specific
conjunctions, punctuation, or both are used to join together these clauses. such as:
and, or, but, yet, therefore etc.)
Example: I always wanted to become a writer, and she wanted to become a doctor.
(Two independent clauses – two verbs)
 complex sentence (one or more than one main/independent clause+ one or more than
dependent clause and those clauses are attached with
that/which/whom/as/because/since etc)
Example: I know that you always wanted to be a writer. (Here, a dependent clause is
followed by a connector and an independent clause.)
 Compound-complex sentence (mixture of the features of compound and complex
sentences in one sentence. So, it must contain at least two independent clauses and at
least one dependent clause.
Example: I know that you always wanted to become a writer, but I always wanted to
become a doctor. (Here, one dependent clause is followed by a complex connector
and two independent clauses with a compound conjunction between them.)

What is clause and phrase? Different types of phrase and clauses?

Clause: A clause is a group of words containing a subject and verb.
Clause are 2 types:
 Independent clause
 Dependent clause/subordinate clause: (Noun clause, Adjective/Relative clause,
Adverb clause)
Independent clause: An independent clause is a simple sentence. It can stand on its own.
(Structure: clause+ full stop)
Example: I am feeling well today.
Dependent clause/subordinate clause: A dependent clause cannot stand on its own. It needs
an independent clause to complete a sentence. Dependent clauses often begin with such
words as although, since, if, when, because.
Examples: Because I am feeling well …, whenever you return home…..

Phrase: A phrase is a group of words without a subject-verb component, used as a single part
of speech.
Examples:
a. Best friend (this phrase acts as a noun)
b. Needing help (this phrase acts as an adjective; see Adjectives and Adverbs)
c. With the blue shirt (this prepositional phrase acts as an adjective)
d. For twenty days (this prepositional phrase acts as an adverb)

Conjunction:
দুই বা তলতাধধক phrase, words, clause র্খন ধবধিন্ন ধরলণর Clause maker (as, but, or, not, so, yet, for,
and etc) দ্বারা যুক্ত হয় তখন তালক conjunction বলে।
or,
A conjunction is a word that is used to connect words, phrases, and clauses.
Example:
1. I tried to hit the nail but hit my thumb instead.
2.I have two goldfish and a cat.
3.I'd like a bike for commuting to work.
4.You can have peach ice cream or a brownie sunda.

Types of conjunction:
Coordinating conjunctions (Coordinating conjunction):
যর্ conjunction একইরকম ব্যাকরণগত কাঠালমা সম্পন্ন words, phrases or clauses যুক্ত কলর তালক
coordinating conjunction বলে । এলক coordinator ও বো হয় ।লর্মনঃ such as, and, or, but, nor, for,
yet, so, etc.
Examples:
I will buy a pen and a book. (Joining two words).
You can find him in the library or in the classroom. (Joining two phrases)
She is poor, yet she is happy. (Joining two clauses)

Subordinating conjunctions:
যর্ conjunction একটি subordinate/dependent clause যক একটি main/independent clause এর সালে যুক্ত
কলর তালক subordinating conjunction বলে ।
যর্মনঃsuch as, since, once, till, when, where, although, after, no matter how, while, provided
that, etc.
Examples:
We went to the garden where we saw different kinds of roses.
Although she was ill, she came to the class.
You will get a chance to play on the team provided that you practice hard.

Correlative conjunctions: য াড় ধবধশষ্ট শব্দ যর্গুলো ধবপরীতাে যক বা পধরপূরক সম্পকযযুক্ত words, phrases বা
clauses যক যুক্ত কলর তালেরলক correlative conjunction বলে।লর্মনঃWhether…or, not only…but also,
either…or, neither…nor, both…and, are some common correlative conjunctions.
Examples:
I will travel either by bus or by air.
Neither you nor I will go there.
Both red and green are my favorite colors.

Starting a sentence with a conjunction:

I've had a perfectly wonderful evening. But, this wasn't it.

মাধ্যলম তা বালকয ব্যবহার করলত পাধর।

Use a semicolon between two independent clauses that are connected by conjunctive adverbs
or transitional phrases.
Examples:
The cow is brown and it is also old.
Use: The cow is brown; it is also old.
