1. PLANNING INFORMATION

1.A. EFFECTIVITY

1.A.1. Helicopters/installed equipment or parts

- B4 version helicopters equipped with SKURKA starter-generators, Part Number (MP/N) 150SG122Q-4.
- T2 version helicopters equipped with SKURKA starter-generators, Part Number (MP/N) 150SG122Q-4 or
200SGL130Q-4.

NOTE

Refer to the Log Cards (FM) and/or the aircraft/engine log

book to identify the actual configuration of the helicopter.

1.A.2. Non-installed equipment or parts

SKURKA starter-generators, Part Numbers (MP/N) 150SG122Q-4 and 200SGL130Q-4, which have logged
operating hours since new or last overhaul.

1.B. ASSOCIATED REQUIREMENTS

Not applicable.

1.C. REASON

Revision 0:

SKURKA starter-generator Part Number (MP/N) 150SG122Q-4 or 200SGL130Q-4 is equipped with brushes
which include molybdenum bars. These bars are the hardest components of the brushes. Therefore, during
some phases of starter-generator operation, the molybdenum bars produce grooves in the commutator.

The level of wear on the brushes and the commutator (depth of grooving) is related to the helicopter mission
profile (e.g. significant number of startups per flying hour, engine cranking/flushing operations, electrical
power breakdown, etc.) (See Figure 1).

Wear

Figure 1

It has been noticed that, on helicopters with specific mission profiles (as described above), brushes of
SKURKA starter-generators Part Number (MP/N) 150SG122Q-4 or 200SGL130Q-4 have reached a level of
wear close to the maximum value prior to the checking interval scheduled in the MSM (Master Servicing
Manual).

Furthermore, it was found that there is a risk that “XL” or “XL2” type brushes are installed instead of “infinity”
type brushes on starter-generators Part Number (MP/N) 150SG122Q-4 or 200SGL130Q-4. This risk is due
to the fact that the identification plate of the starter-generator may not have been updated.

The performance of a starter-generator with brushes more than 90% worn or with “XL” or “XL2” type brushes
may be degraded without causing any determinate failure. The degraded performance may, in some cases,
be indicated by a drop in the supplied voltage. The main battery will compensate the starter-generator
degraded performance by supplying part of the electrical energy to the helicopter’s power system.

The main battery therefore discharges, which may result in a loss of the helicopter’s electrical power supply.

Consequently, Airbus Helicopters recommends:

- checking the type of brushes installed and checking the information on the starter-generator identification
plate,
- checking the level of wear on the commutator and brushes of the starter-generator.

Revision 1:

The Service Bulletin SKURKA Aerospace Inc. No SB 150SG187 was amended in revision B. As a result of
the contents of this revision, Airbus Helicopters requests a punctual check of the identification plate as well
as the brushes for the starter-generators Part Number (MP/N) 200SGL130Q-4 which have complied with
revision 0 of this Service Bulletin.

Consequently, the purpose of revision 1 is to:

- modify the Appendix 4.A. to integrate the Service Bulletin SKURKA Aerospace Inc. No. SB 150SG187
revision B,
- modify the procedure to request a punctual check of the identification plate as well as the brushes for the
starter-generators Part Number (MP/N) 200SGL130Q-4 which have complied with revision 0 of this
Service Bulletin.

Revision 2:

Revision 2 of this Service Bulletin informs that this Service Bulletin is no longer applicable following the
integration of its contents in the documentation:
- for B4 helicopter version:
. Aircraft Maintenance Manual (AMM) RN014 of 2018.12.21 and RN019 of 2021.07.07,
. Master Servicing Manual (MSM) RN020 of 2021.10.18.
- for T2 helicopter version:
. Aircraft Maintenance Manual (AMM) RN014 of 2018.12.21 and RN019 of 2021.07.07,
. Master Servicing Manual (MSM) RN017 of 2021.10.18.
