12.1 Gases/Exploring Gas Laws Lab
Name: Period' - t 5
lect ) .$nr6x
Obiective: To learn how gases behave and the gas laws through performing various investigations.

Procedure:
At each station follow the instructions. This will include drawing the apparatus before and after including
how the molecules of gas are moving. Then answer the questions for the lab, clean up and move to the next
station. {'{'* Be careful with the equipment!!!!

Exp 1: Soda Can

1. Using a graduated cylinder measure anil then pour 20ml of water into a soda can.
2. Place the can on the hot plate and let it sit until the water is boiling (water vapor is coming out).
3. Quickly move the can from hot plate with tongs and put upside down into cold water (so top of can is
. sealed with water)

Exn 3: spitting straw-
1) Place half a drinking straw vertically into a cup that is half frlled with water so that it is almost completely
submerged. Have one partner hold the straw up... so that it doesn't touch the bottom.
2) Hold another half straw perpendicular to the first straw so that it just touching.
3) Blow through the second straw towards the first straw.
