MID YEAR IN SERVICE TRAINING FOR TEACHERS

Professional development of teachers is one of the key areas that the Department of Education has
prioritized even on a crisis situation. Carcar City Division in congruence with the regional and national
offices mandates on learning and development activities have fully conducted the in-service trainings of
teachers this mid-year period. It was on a five-day school-based setting. Teachers, supervisors, and
division key personnel were in volved in this activity.

On my first day of monitoring, I made sure that schools have closely abide to the processes and
procedures that should be observed in the delivery of the activity. Topics that are relevant to teachers
were being dish out to the teachers belonging to Cluster 1. I went from one to school to another. Glady
on my monitoring, I can see the willingness of teachers to learn something from this training. Their faces
were full of happiness and excitement to participate in each of the session designed in each day.

On my second day, I was invited by some schools of Cluster 6 both morning and afternoon sessions to
speak about 21st Century Skills and how it is going to be applied in designing classroom activities across
the different learning areas. I can see relentless efforts of teachers to participate in the collegial learning.
Outputs were collected from the teachers after my talk.

Third day was also a bit challenging because I need to go to the mountain schools of Puesto National
High School and Elementary Schools. The location of both schools was quite a distant from the main
road. My purpose was to monitor the conduct of the training as well as to speak about the same topic that
I have cascaded to the teachers of Cluster 6. It was a success on my part as I was able to deliver it
wholeheartedly. Teachers were very grateful because the session to them was like a refresher.

Fourth and last day was a success too. I was also invited to speak about Culture Based Education as
reference point in contextualizing and localizing the curriculum especially the learning resources. In my
presentation, I showcased how to conduct a research-based crafting of learning resources. I presented to
them the lesson activity that highlighted the use of local cultural icons as content in the delivery of the
teaching and learning process. Teachers were asked to craft a lesson activity based on the sample. The
topic was quite unique but substantial according to most teachers.
The in-service training that the Division Office have conducted through schools was an epitome on how
the department equipped its teachers to keep abreast with the challenges and demands of an educational
landscape under a crisis situation as well as the pressures of 21 st century teaching.

Each schools closed it with team building activities on different venues. The success of schools in
conducting the activity was lauded with different photos posted in social medias. The posts were
evidences that Carcar City Divisions really cares for the professional development of its teachers.

Professional development of teachers is one of the key areas that the Department of Education has
prioritized even on a crisis. Carcar City Division is in congruence with the regional and national offices
mandates on learning and development activities geared towards the empowerment of school heads
focusing on strategic planning and school innovation.

The learning and development activity is a NEAP Recognized Professional Development Program
designed for school heads. It is the second phase of the PDP and is expected to finish this October.

The program started on time at exactly 8: 00 in the morning with the presence of all public school district

the job of a school head.

The resource persons of this engagement were Dr. Ompad, Dr. Rentillosa, and Dr. Dicidiquin, they have
wholeheartedly delivered their sessions. They engaged the school heads with different activities focusing
more on group deliberations and discussions concerning how to be a strategic in planning and how to
design an innovation that would address learning gaps of students specially in the middle of Covid 19
health crisis.

Innovations are greatly encouraged nowadays, because these could also lead into solving perennial
situations that may hampered to the smooth operation of organizations. The schools are encouraged to
innovate and create something new in different key areas of school like learning resources, teaching and
learning delivery, human capital management and many other areas in the SBM

The second day was also challenging, because the participants we made to group themselves accordingly.
There were asked to present creative activities that would address and exposed them about the sad
realities existing right now in the educational landscape. They were to present these issues and gaps and
create an intervention to this. Most school issue was raiaed during the conference was on issues on
numeracy and literacy.

The activity was indeed a success, because of the strong support from the administrative side , the
untiring dedication of the focal person activity, the relentless skills of the facilitators and the attitude of
school heads towards learning something beneficial and relevant to them as school leaders.
