RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

This chapter deals with the research design, research locale, sample and sampling procedure,
respondents of the study, data gathering tools, data gathering procedure ,and statistical treatment
of data.

Research Design

This study about the Factors Affecting the Interest of Grade 12 Humss students of Wesleyan
University Philippines Aurora on the academic year 2020-2021 utilize descriptive research
design, descriptive research design is a scientific method which involves observing and
describing the behavior of a subject without influencing it in any way (Shuttleworth, 2008). For
collection of data through survey method, questionnaire was used.

Research Locale

This study focused in the Grade 12 Humss students of Wesleyan University-Philippines

Aurora, from the academic year 2021-2022.

Wesleyan University-Philippines Aurora is the Extension of Wesleyan University-

Philippines, Cabanatuan City.

Vision: We envision God’s reign through a Christian institution of learning inspired by

Methodist tradition for the transformation of society.

Mission: To participate in the transformation of society through academic excellence and service
sustained by Christian values.

It is the first and only University at Aurora Province. WUP- Aurora is a private, non-
stock, non- profit and non- sectarian university located at Brgy. 01, Maria Aurora, Aurora. It was
first known as Aurora Wesleyan High School(AWHS)and was established in 1963. The
institution had grown school’s benefits.

On March 14, 2000, AWHS officially merged with Wesleyan and was recognized around the
province in terms of Academic Excellence, Extra- Curricular Activities and other programs,
serving the community through the endeavour of different principals who took office and gave
untiring service for Wesleyan University-Philippines, Cabanatuan City, bearing the letter’s name
and Commission. The data provided by the University Registrar revealed was registered at
Securities and Exchange that there where 260 Humss students, 34 in block 1, 35 in block 2, 41 in
block 3, 37 in block 4, 40 in block 5, 38 in block 6, and 35 in block 7, during the school year
2021-2022.

Samples and Sampling Procedures

The respondent of this study are the grade 12 HUMSS students of Wesleyan University-
Philippines Aurora of the academic year 2021- 2022.

The respondents were asked to participate by answering the questionnaire to identify the
factors affecting their interest towards new learning methods.

The respondent will be classified senior high school students in Wesleyan University
Philippines- Aurora. The researcher used the simple random sampling, a type of probability
sampling in which a researcher selects a subset of individuals from a larger group at random
(thomas, 2020)

Respondents of the Study

Out of Two Hundred Sixty(260) students of Grade 12 students, 99 of them were selected to
be the respondents of the study.

Data Gathering Tools/Instrument

The main tool used in data gathering was questionnaire. Questionnaire was in checklist
form, composed of the profile of the respondent in terms of gender, age, grade and strand, factors

that may affect Grade 12 Humss students interest towards new learning and the effects of new
learning method to the students knowledge.

This study was conducted to validate and add knowledge about data gathered. The
researcher conducted this among the Grade 12 Humss students of Wesleyan University-
Philippines Aurora.

Data Gathering Procedures

This study is about the factors affecting the interest of Grade 12 Humss students of
Wesleyan University- Philippines Aurora towards new learning method. In complete the
researchers prepared questionnaire with the guidance of their advisers. The researchers used the
Simple Random Sampling online survey procedure in gathering the information needed in this
study.

Data Analysis

The researchers gather all questionnaires in order to tally the results and apply the
statistical treatment to the data. Counts, frequency, and percentage distribution are used in
problem statements. Counting will enable researchers in establishing what factors, such as
technology, location, teachers, and personal matters, are influencing students' interest in the new
learning style. The researchers also include the satisfaction of the students in the knowledge they
are getting from the new learning modes. With the verbal interpretation, 4 is strongly agree, 3 is
agree, 2 is disagree, 1 is strongly disagree.

Scope and delimitation of the study

The scope of this research only covered the factors that may affect the students interest
towards online class and modular or in general the new learning method.
Due to all length of this study, this research was only for the senior high school students
of Wesleyan University-Philippines Aurora year 2020-2021 which could not allow a
comprehensive research large scale.
