Grade Level: Grade 3

English Lesson: Describe one’s drawing about the stories/poems listened to using
simple and compound sentences
Targeted Macroskill: We want to target the “Listening” Macro Skills of Grade 3 Students.
Targeting the “viewing macroskill” is just a bonus but the main focus is listening.
Purpose of the Activity: As we’ve mentioned above the listening Macro Skills of the
Grade 3 students combined with the viewing macro skills, are the two targeted macro
skills because we want to train their senses into listening to a particular song while
understanding the message and the content of it by viewing. We also want to know if they
can describe one’s drawing attached on the stories/poems (poem can also be in a form
of song), therefore while the video clip of the song is playing they need to pay attention
to those images of animals that will appear on the screen on the spot. We also want them
to know who is Old MacDonald itself, his background, his profession or what does he
have in his life and with that the learners may be familiarized to the different animals and
its sounds, particularly those animals mentioned in the song. Lastly, we want them to see
how they compose at least a simple or compound sentence by giving a short answer so
their reasoning abilities may also be tested.

The main purpose of targeting the learner’s Listening Macro Skill is because
Listening is a lost art. Nowadays, we usually rely from what is written on the textbook,
once you read that it’s okay that you didn’t understand it that much because you have
something to open or to look back because it is already there. But once you target your
learners listening skill, you’ve also targeted their paying attention skills. You capture them
to listen to you and to understand you. In this case a musical clip is the main instrument
or material we used and the students have no choice but to listen to it carefully or else
they cannot answer the following questions you will give to them. Other reason why we
choose the Grade 3 students to trained their listening skills because they are one step
closer to intermediate Grade, it is important that at that particular grade they practice to
rely on their listening skills rather than just reading. That is why we choose to target the
Student’s Listening Skills.
Procedure: Here is the step-by-step procedure on how we will do this activity:

1.) We will ask them to listen to the song “Old MacDonald had a farm” and also pay
attention to details because a there would be a follow up question.
2.) We will play the song “Old MacDonald had a farm”.
3.) Afterwards, they will answer the given questions to test their understanding and
their reasoning skills.
3.1 – Multiple Choice
3.2 – Short Answer
4.) The students are expected to reflect based on their own insights.
5.) Checking of the activity comes next and the teacher will give brief explanation
and feedback.
Expected Output/Outcome: At the end this activity will enhance the particular Listening
Macro Skills of the learners by simply listening, viewing macroskill was a bonus one. The
learners may also develop how they pay attention to every details and content of the
material base on how they comprehend or understand what’s on the musical video clip.
With that, we can assure that they will be able to describe one’s drawing about the
stories/poems listened to using simple and compound sentences through that musical
clip, because every animals shows on the screen they will be able to describe them even
how they listen was given enough focus because of the audio being played. Lastly, the
essence of listening as a lost art will be given enough importance and appreciate that
listening plays a vital role to communicate and understand not only as a role of a student
but also as an individual of the society.
