Welcome to the English Grade 2 Alternative Delivery Mode
(ADM) Module on Classifying/Categorizing Sounds Heard,
(Animals, Mechanical, Objects, Musical Instruments,
Environment, Speech)!
This module was collaboratively designed, developed and
reviewed by educators from public institutions to assist you,
the teacher or facilitator in helping the learners meet the
standards set by the K to 12 Curriculum while overcoming
their personal, social, and economic constraints in schooling.
This learning resource hopes to engage the learners into
guided and independent learning activities at their own pace
and time. Furthermore, this also aims to help learners acquire
the needed 21st century skills while taking into consideration
their needs and circumstances.

from their experiences so that there will be collaboration and
learning will be easy.

Welcome to the English 2 Alternative Delivery Mode (ADM)
Module on Classifying/Categorizing Sounds Heard (Animals,
Mechanical, Objects, Musical Instruments, Environment,
Speech)!
We hear different sounds around us. At home, we hear
sounds from the radio and the television. We hear the sounds
made by different transportations, animals and many others.
This module was designed to provide you with fun and
meaningful opportunities for guided and independent
learning at your own pace and time. You will be enabled to
process the contents of the learning resource while being an
active learner.
NOTE:
Use the module with care. Do not put unnecessary mark/s on
any part of the module. Use a separate sheet of paper in
answering the exercises.

What I Need to Know

This module will assist you to learn how to


classify/categorize the different sounds heard in
our surroundings.
Sounds have great importance in our daily lives. They
make possible and better as sounded through speech.
Sounds give us pleasure.
Sounds can be heard from the different objects and help
us in many ways. While some sounds warns us on possible
danger.
At the end of this module, you are expected to:

1. classify/categorize sounds heard (animals,mechanical,


objects, musical instruments, environment, speech);
2. get the meaning of words through pictures/ models; and
3. answer wh-questions.

The Magic of Sound

Anna was sitting in the middle of their garden,


while watching her cat and dog playing Meow – meow
-meow said her little cat; arf – arf – arf barks of her dog.
As she watched her pets, the phone rang “kring –
kring – kring” it was her father calling. And then she
strummed her favorite guitar “kleng – kleng - kleng”. As
she sang and strummed her guitar, the cool night air
gently blew on her face whoosh –whoosh - whoosh.
All of a sudden, she heard a roar and cry of a baby!
eair – eair - eair) It was coming from down the back of
the yard. It sounded like a tricycle starting. The strange
noise started getting louder and louder “vrooom –
vroom - vroom”.
A couple of seconds later she felt leaves and twigs
blowing onto her bare legs. She slowly turned around. It
was only mum coming down the path, with her baby
sister.

Discussion of Activity 1

Sounds are classified as:

1. Animal Sound – sound that comes from the animals


Example: Cat, meow – meow – meow

2. Mechanical Sound – is when vibration of pressure is


passed on transmitted to produce sounds.
Example: Tricycle, broom – broom - broom

4. Objects Sound – sound that comes from an object.


Example: whistle, prrt – prrt - prrt

5. Musical Instruments Sound – sound that comes from


musical instruments.
Example: Guitar, kleng – kleng - kleng

6. Environment Sound – natural sound that we hear


from the environment.
Example: wind, whoosh – whoosh - whoosh

7. Speech Sound – sound created by human being.


Example: crying of a baby, eaair – eaair – eaair
