WELCOME TO NEW CITY PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH

New City is a collection of people of all ages and professions, from a wide variety
of spiritual and social backgrounds. We embrace Jesus’ claims to be true and
transformational. We also believe the central message of the Bible is the good news, or
“gospel,” of a God who created us for Himself and desires us to live fully as we enjoy
relationship with Him and with each other.

The Bible’s radical message of grace centers on Jesus and creates a new city comprised
of renewed individuals living not for themselves but for the God who redeems. For this
reason, New City exists to be a community rooted in truth, real in conversation, and
hopeful for deep renewal in our lives and our city.

As the Senior Pastor of New City, it is my privilege to welcome you and to invite you to
be astonished, together with us, by the splendor and grace of God.

Rev. Ryan McVicar

NEW CITY VISION & VALUES

To be people in awe of God, made new by the gospel,

for the sake of people throughout our city, the nations,
and the generations to come.

Our vision leads us to hold closely three values that shape our life and ministry as a church:

ROOTED CONVICTION in the truths of God’s Word

REAL CONVERSATION as we engage the gospel, culture, and each other
RENEWAL OF THE CITY as we live and do life in relationship with God

CALL TO WORSHIP Romans 12:1-2
God always comes to
us before we can come 1
I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a
to Him. Biblical worship
is a response to God’s living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. 2 Do not be
gracious revelation of
Himself, calling us to conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing
worship.
you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

ALL GATHERING HYMN Praise To The Lord The Almighty

Joachim Neander, Tr. Catherine Winkworth.
1680/1863, Public Domain

Praise to the Lord, the Almighty, the King of creation!

O my soul, praise Him, for He is thy health and salvation!
All ye who hear, now to His temple draw near,
Praise Him in glad adoration; Praise Him in glad adoration.

Praise to the Lord, who over all things so wondrously reigneth,

Shelters thee under His wings, yea, so gently sustaineth!
Hast thou not seen how all your longings have been
Granted in what He ordaineth? Granted in what He ordaineth.

Praise to the Lord, O let all that is in me adore Him!

All that hath life and breath, come now with praises before Him!
Let the Amen sound from His people again;
Gladly forever adore Him; Gladly forever adore Him.

ALL HYMN OF FAITH All Glory Be Forever
Jordan Kauflin.
© 2013, Sovereign Grace Praise
CCLI #7001316
We had turned from God to sin’s disgrace
We chose the path to hell
Perfect law of God condemned our race
For all in Adam fell
But the righteousness of God appeared
And the world found hope again
For the Righteous One has come down to bear
All the curse of sin and death

Now to Him Who’s seated on the throne

All glory be forever
Oh, the depths of wisdom, grace, and power
All glory be forever
All glory be forever

Every bond of sin that held us fast

Is left in Jesus’ grave
We’ve been freed from all that gripped our past
From Satan’s rule and reign
We’ve been raised to life to breathe His grace
As captives now reclaimed
All our guilt is gone, all our strivings ceased
We’re alive to seek His fame

Now our future’s fixed, our journey clear

God will not let us go
Every trial that tempts our hearts to fear
He’ll use to give us hope
All creation groans as we await
What our eyes have longed to see
Every pain and evil we’ve long endured
Will be crushed by Christ our King

You Need Deep Knowledge Of God For This Trip

THE SACRAMENT OF
HOLY COMMUNION
Communion–also known as the Lord’s Supper–has always been a common, shared, joyous family
meal. This meal is for those who have placed their faith in Jesus Christ; for those Baptized Christians
who trust in His once-for-all sacrificial death upon the cross for their salvation. When we celebrate this
feast, we commune with the risen Lord Jesus who stands as our host to offer spiritual nourishment,
renewal and life. We also commune with one another, participating together in the reconciling grace
of God.

We warmly welcome to the table all who trust in Jesus and who have publicly professed their faith as
members of a Christian congregation. At New City, we ask our children not to take communion until
they have met with the elders to share of their faith in Christ, although all children are invited to come
forward to receive a blessing and a word of encouragement. If you are not a Christian, we encourage
you to spend this time reflecting on the prayers below in the hopes that a relationship with Jesus and
membership in His Church may be considered.

You will be directed to make your way to one of the four stations in our sanctuary where you will
receive the bread and the wine (gluten-free cracker and grape juice available). Please take it back to
your place so we can partake together.

Jesus is truly and spiritually present and stands ready to feed you.
Come hungry. Come thirsty. Come ready to be filled.

INDIVIDUAL PRAYERS FOR PRAYING DURING COMMUNION

PRAYER FOR THOSE SEARCHING FOR THE TRUTH
Lord Jesus, You claim to be the way, the truth and the life. If what You claim is true, please guide
me, teach me, and open to me the reality of who You are. Grant that I might be undaunted by the
cost of following You as I consider the reasons for doing so. Give me an understanding of You that is
coherent, convincing, and that leads to the life that You promise. Amen.

PRAYER OF BELIEF
Lord Jesus, I admit that I am weaker and more sinful than I ever before believed, but through You, I
am more loved and accepted than I ever dared to hope. I thank You for paying my debt, bearing my
punishment on the cross and offering forgiveness and new life. Knowing that You have been raised
from the dead, I turn from my sins and receive You as my Savior. Amen.

PRAYER OF HUMBLE ACCESS

I do not presume to come to Your table, O merciful Lord, trusting in my own goodness, but only in
Your righteousness credited to me. I am not worthy so much as to gather up the crumbs under Your
table. But You are the same Lord whose manner is always to show mercy. Grant me, O Lord, the grace
to commune now with Christ by faith, that I may evermore live in Him and He in me. Amen.

ALL CORPORATE PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Because of the gospel, Heavenly Father, seldom do we pray like the psalmist, “Search me, O God, and know my

God is a relationship in heart,” because we prefer to cover our hearts, and hide our thoughts from You. We know
which honesty about You are holy, and we know we transgress Your holy law. We know of Your mercy, yet we

safe. Therefore, with quickly believe the enemy’s accusations that drive us to guilt and shame. Lord, free us of
one voice, we are able unrepentant hearts and forgive us our sin, so that we may bask in Your light and revel in
to openly and sincerely
confess our sins to Him. Your presence. We pray in our great Savior’s name. Amen.

MINISTER ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS 1 John 1:6-7

God’s Word assures us 6

Ada Ruth Habershon.

When I fear my faith will fail, For my life He bled and died,
Christ will hold me fast Christ will hold me fast
When the tempter would prevail, Justice has been satisfied,
He will hold me fast He will hold me fast
I could never keep my hold Raised with Him to endless life;
through life’s fearful path He will hold me fast
For my love is often cold Till our faith is turned to sight
He must hold me fast. when He comes at last

He will hold me fast; He will hold me fast

For my Savior loves me so,
He will hold me fast

Those He saves are His delight;

Christ will hold me fast
Precious in His holy sight,
He will hold me fast
He’ll not let my soul be lost;
His promises shall last
Bought by Him at such a cost,
He will hold me fast

Though rich or poor, Your Word is true

No step I walk beyond Your plan
The path is dark outside my view
Still all my ways are known to You

And oh what peace that I have found

Wherever I may be

For death will be the door to life
