ANSWERS:
1. The author, Mac Barnett, started his speech with a line “My job is that I lie to children” and this is mainly
because of his advocacy in teaching children how to wonder – the art of poetic faith in believing stories,
no matter how strange they are but always with a pinch of some truth.
2. The author uses the technique of breaking the fourth wall but in completely opposite manner. He writes
fictional literary pieces for children to be break reality – bringing his own imaginative world of fiction to
escape and come into the real world for children to see.
3. Given the chance, adopting the author’s style of creative and fictional storytelling is the most effective
way I should consider for a meaningful engagement in teaching and learning of literature studies.
Personally, it is really effective in a way that it does entertain and let you have your own imagination
connect to your own truth which makes reading relatable and fun.
4. Overall, I can say that the speaker, Mr. Mac Barnett is a really good storyteller and writer. With the
TEDTALK I just watched, I easily got convinced by him that lies can somewhat help us understand truth
but in a more artistic and non-boring way.
