Title of Study Preparing PSEI learners for changing working lives

Objective: The project aims to understand how learners are adapting and learning during their
work-study or enhanced internship programmes. We estimate 110 learners are participating in
the study.

Procedures:
If you decide to participate in this study, you will be interviewed twice for about 45 min each time
by researchers on your learning experience during the period of your work-study or enhanced
internship progamme. The interview will be audio recorded. The researchers will visit you at the
workplace or your polytechnic or speak via ZOOM for the interviews. We will organise post-
study workshops for learners to share their work-study learning experience and you may be
invited to share your learning experience.

Right to Refuse or Withdraw: Your participation is completely voluntary. If you decide not to
participate or to withdraw from the study it will have no effect on your work performance.

Risks and Discomforts: This study will help researchers understand the internship learning
experience of undergraduates. Your confidentiality will be protected at all times and only
anonymised data will be shared with faculty or disseminated in publications. The only risk of
participating in the study is related to feeling uncomfortable while being audio recorded during
the interview. However, you may choose to withdraw your participation at any time.

Benefits: There is no direct benefit to you by participating in this study. The knowledge gained
will improve understanding of how to improve the process of workplace learning during
internships and the information gathered will help development of workshops for improving
quality of internship experience for undergraduates. There are no disadvantages involved if you
choose to participate in this study.
