Purpose of Training
⚫ What is the purpose of Fire Fighting Training?

⚫ Take a preventive measures to avoid Fire.

⚫ Raise the awareness of ERT members

⚫ What to do in case of Fire Emergency?


FIRE WATCH
• An individual who is trained in the proper use of fire
extinguishers and is familiar with the fire alarm system
and/or emergency notification procedures.
• The fire watch must be present during work, breaks, and
at least 30 minutes after the work has ended to guard
against fire.
Employee (Persons Performing Hot Work) Responsibilities
• Completely adhering to the requirements
of this program and attending required training;

• Understanding the emergency procedures in


the event of a fire and shall have an
awareness of the inherent risks involved;

• Stopping hot work operations and


notifying management if
an unsafe condition is identified.
FIRE CLASSIFICATION
• CLASS A: Wood, Cloth, Paper, Rubber, Carpets,
Rubbish, Wool and Many Plastics, etc.

• CLASS B: Diesel, Oil Base Paints, Oils, Grease,


Petrol, Kerosene, Thinners, Benzene,
Other Chemicals, etc.

• CLASS C: Natural Gas, Vinyl Chloride, Methane,


Propane, Butane, LPG, Ethane, Acetylene,
Hydrogen, etc.

• CLASS D: Magnesium, Titanium, Zirconium,


Sodium, Lithium, Potassium, etc.

BEFORE USING EXTINGUISHER, YOU MUST CHECK
❖Know your fire extinguishers, it prevents improper use.
❖Know how to lift and operate the extinguisher.
❖The extinguisher must match the fire / fuel source.
❖The extinguisher must be large enough to put out the fire.
❖The extinguisher must be fully charged, check it
before you step up to the fire.
❖Always remember to begin fighting the
fire from a safe distance at least 10 ft (≈3 meters).
CHARACTERISTICS OF GOOD FIRE EXTINGUISHER
❖Should be kept in upright position.
❖Should have a locking pin.
❖Should have a controllable discharge.
❖Should have some visible indication;
Whether the extinguisher is full or empty.

❖Shall have suitable internal coating if required.


❖Should have good quality paint, resistant to weather.
HOW TO PREVENT FIRE
➢Maintain good housekeeping– always clean up- deposit in bins
➢Place oily rags in covered containers.
➢Don’t refuel Gasoline powered equipment when running or hot.
➢Store flammable liquids / chemicals away from heat sources.
➢Use flammable liquids in well ventilated areas.
➢Look for and report damaged electrical wiring, broken fittings.
➢Keep motors clean and in good working order to prevent over heating.
➢Don’t overload power outlets or extension leads.
➢Investigate any appliance or electrical equipment that smells strange.

• Capacity of F/E e.g. 9 kg, 5 kg
• Seal available.
• Pin available.
• Pressure gauge in green.
• Body condition.
• Handle is good
