Content: Force, Motion & Energy

Law of Acceleration

I. Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, students are able to:
1. Describe the motion of an object in terms of relative position, speed, and velocity.
2. Investigate the relationship between the amount of force applied and the mass of the
object to the amount of change in the object’s motion. (S8FE-Io-15)
3. Calculate the acceleration of an object with varied mass and force applied.

II. Subject Matter

A. Topic: Law of Acceleration
B. References:
Science Grade 8 LM, pg. 11-13
Science Grade 8 TGm pg. 11-13
C. Materials:
Laptop, Powerpoint Presentation, Simulation Software, Chalk or White Board Marker

III. Procedure
1. Preparatory Activity
- The teacher greets the class and checks the cleanliness and orderliness of the
classroom.
- Prayer
- Checking of Attendance

2. Discussion Proper
A. Elicit
- The teacher will review the class about what they know about motion. She will ask
the following questions:
a. How will you know if a person or object is moving?
b. Am I moving right now?
- The teacher will let the students recall about relative position, speed, and velocity.

B. Engage
- The teacher will ask two volunteers who will race each other in front of the class. One
volunteer has a heavy body-built while the other one has a thin stature.

C. Explore
- The teacher will allow the class to play with a simulation software and let them
discover how mass and applied force affects acceleration of an object.
D. Explain
- The teacher chooses several students from the class and let them try to explain why a
smaller object with a greater force is faster than a heavier object with lesser force.

E. Elaborate
- The teacher will introduce the Law of Acceleration by Isaac Newton, its formula, as
well as how it is applied.

F. Evaluate
- The teacher gives the class a short quiz.

G. Extend
- The teacher gives an assignment to the class.
