IO Manager And Station Explorer

There are two ways to access IO Manager, for the first and quickest way go to system on the
top menu bar and select “Equipment”

This will open the system status page. This page will show you all the Process Stations
attached to the A/B network, on a ship that only has DP we will only see the 2 DP Process
Stations, DpPs 01 and DpPs 11 if it’s a redundant DP system. If the DP system is part of a
Kongsberg automation system you will see all the process stations.

In our case we want to look at the DP PS, if you hover the mouse point over DpPs01 or
DpPs11 a small popup will appear saying “Main DP A” or “Main DP B”.
Right click over one of the DpPS`s and select “IO Manager”

Then we are at the IO Manager page, on this page we are interested in “RBUS”, this is the
internal communication inside the DP cabinet

We have to click on the + symbol next to RBUS, and then the + symbol on the next level
down

Now we can see all the RMP modules inside the cabinet, note that we do not see the RSER
module where we connect the Gyro/GPS/Wind etc …….. We only see the RMP modules. The
numbering on the modules is the same as the numbering inside the cabinet and the numbering
on the IO Spec. Next we left click on one of the modules, not the + symbol, click on the text
“34_RMP20x-8”, we can now see the IO Terminal Block

It is possible to generate signals from this page, so if we want to send 100% signal to a
thruster or create a ready signal it can be done from here.
Right click on one of the channels.

We can see some options in the menu but everything is grey, so we cannot select anything, we
have to change user. Go to system on the top menu bar and select “Change User”, select
system and enter the password, then click change user.

Now when we right click on a channel we have some options available.
Select “Set manual Value”.

We can now enter a value, the channel we have selected here is a ready signal, a digital signal
so there are only 2 choices of signal, 1 or 0. If this was as analogue signal we could type a
percentage.

Now we are forcing a value on channel l, THR6_READY. The Eng. Value says manual
meaning the DP software has no control of this channel. We will now see a ready signal for
thruster 6

To remove the manual setting and set the channel back to normal mode we right click on the
channel and select “Set IO Point In Normal Mode”. This give the software control of the
channel.

Remember to change user back to operator once you are finished.

Now we are in the Station Explorer Page, on the top curtain menu you can select the different
Process Stations.
We will click on the + symbol next to IO Manager

The image we see now is the RMP layout inside the cabinet. The image you see on your
system will match the layout of your cabinet. From this view you can see which RMP
modules have faults or un-acknowledged alarms. You can left click on any of the modules to
go to the IO Terminal Block

Now we see the channels, mA, Volts and digital signals.
