Q1.

 Define the situation: The annual revenue had remained constant but the founder
was concerned that his company was experiencing a downturn.

 Describe and collect needed information: the company's key product is a Web-
based software platform used by the US armed forces, but Paul wants to target the
much larger and more lucrative enterprise market. He also wants to find potential
new private clients that can drive revenue growth and enhance the value of the
company.

 Develop alternatives: Realize that the software can be adapted for the civilian
market

 Develop agreement among those involved: Paul has hired a new chief executive
officer, Doug Burke. Together the two began exploring DefenseWeb's options.
They decided to split into two "zones". Cavanaugh on the government side, and
Burke on the new private sector.

 Decide which alternative is best: After the time runs out, the findings of each
zone were given — good or bad — to the company's board of directors for a
decision.

 Do what is indicated: when Burke's zone was selected, he selected 2 technicians

to change the application for commercial use. Besides, he found 6 out of 20
potential technology clients to participate in the pilot program.
 Determine whether the decision was a good one and follow up: In addition to
the initial and six-clients reviews that were positive, Burke discovered barriers and
needed further modifications. After completing, build a sales and marketing force
to sell.

Q2.

+ expand career opportunities
+ require highly skilled workers
+ organizations have more relationships and sign many contacts, which
provide more workload for employees as well as their income.
+ increase pressure on employees
 Customers:
+ broaden the range of consumers
+ buyers have more choices to select
+ customers receive more benefits and services than before.

o Community:
o a problem about inefficiencies in the local economy
 develop and enhance infrastructure and services
 various works for vulnerable classes ( worker, unemployment, etc)
participating in the labor market.
o Investors:

 Create opportunities to earn more profit by a tremendous amount of

investment.
 Attract more investors both in the nation and international countries to
invest in the company due to its being widely known.

o Suppliers:
o Some suppliers related to technology lost their transactions leading to take
detriment in their profit resulting from at the moment the company has their
CEO concerning new private-sector strategy

o While some suppliers have a chance to cooperate with the company

because the business sector is extended.

Q3.

Benefit :

To begin with, to meet the strategic plan, founder Cavanaugh recruited a

technical person as a CEO to introduce changes to the company’s flagship
software and assure the new version had the potential to function for private
sector clients.

Furthermore, a technology industry veteran enables to perform tasks in a

specific department in a professional way, in other words, he comprehends
the technology like the back of his hand. Because of his special skill set and
experiences, this makes him have a unique vision to see its potential and
advancement.

In addition, because the technical person has deep - technology knowledge,

he acquired a competitive advantage compared to otherjs in such an ever-
increasing world. Even though an establisher has outstanding
communication skills, catching up with those shifts and changes in
technology is arduous and complicated for a “professional CEO”.

Drawback :

 The CEO requires not only technical skills but also human relations skills and
conceptual skills. Furthermore, conceptual skills are the most significant and
challenging skills that the CEO should have. Nevertheless, frequently technician
workers do not have enough conceptual skills to operate the company so this is the
most worrying drawback of having a technician as a CEO.

 The technical CEO takes the highest role in the engineering department. This
CEO’s main task is to ensure the operation and working of the machinery and
equipment system. As a result, the CEO must avoid the mistakes, because if just
one little problem happens, it somehow leads to a headache for the whole system.
 Moreover, this position requires you to be an intermediary between every
department related to technical and the header. So that if you are not good enough
for this, the system does not work well, and this has been accomplished.

 In some specific companies, hiring this type of CEO may decline the power of the
general manager. The stock must be shared, somehow it is not good for the leader.
