For the learner:


Welcome to the Arts 7 Alternative Delivery Mode (ADM) Module on Arts and Crafts
of Luzon (Highlands and Lowlands).

Do you love art? Have you ever dreamed of becoming an artist? Art has been a part
of our lives for as long as humanity has existed. For thousands of years, people have
been creating, looking, criticizing, and enjoying art. I would like to address three
questions: what is art, what is its purpose, and why has it survived for this long.

This module was designed to provide you with fun and meaningful opportunities for
guided and independent learning at your own pace and time. It will enable you to
process the contents of the learning resource while being an active learner.

What I Know This part includes an activity that aims to

learned concepts.

The following are some reminders in using this module:

1. Use the module with care. Do not put unnecessary mark/s on any part of the
module. Use your MAPEH activity notebook (big notebook) in answering the
written tasks. For activities like drawing, designing, etc., use bond papers in
doing the tasks of which later be made into portfolio. While some outputs that
require creative skill like mat and ball weaving, flower and collage making,
etc., should be done and be included in your submission.
2. Don’t forget to answer What I Know before moving on to the other activities
included in the module. Please answer the questions HONESTLY! Your
answers will not affect your grade.
3. Read the instruction carefully before doing each task.
4. Observe honesty and integrity in doing the tasks and checking your answers.
5. Finish the task at hand before proceeding to the next.
6. Return this module to your teacher/facilitator once you are through with it.

What I Need to Know

Art is one of the most important means of expression developed by human


beings. It has grown out of humans’ need to express themselves, their feelings,
and their views and ideas by using their skills and imagination. Art is found
everywhere and is very much a part of our lives. We find art objects that move
and affect us so that we feel and see their beauty in our homes, the community,
in religion, and in trade and industry.

This module will help you reflect how art and the different aspects of life are
interrelated.

After going through this module, you are expected to reflect on and derive the
mood, idea, or message emanating from selected artifacts and art objects.

Specifically, you are expected to:

1. identify the messages of some examples of Luzon arts and crafts;


2. create artworks showing the characteristic of the artifacts and art objects
of Luzon (Highlands);
3. reflect on the message emerging from selected artifacts and art objects.

PART I. IDENTIFICATION
Directions: Read the statements carefully. Draw a happy face if the
statement makes you happy and a sad face if it makes you sad.

2. Tattooing nowadays is still considered as a work of art.

What is It

The arts and crafts of Luzon reveal many aspects of the people’s culture,
traditions, and history. The mood, idea and the message of these fascinating arts
and crafts will give each Filipino the understanding that the Philippines is rich in
culture and tradition.

they greatly contribute to Philippine culture when it comes to arts and crafts.

What I Can Do

Activity 2: Pinch Pot

Directions: Make your own pot/jar showing the characteristic elements of the
arts of Luzon (Highlands). Use clay or any available materials in
pottery making. Follow the procedure below.

Materials Needed:
 Clay or molding clay
 Pencil

Procedure:
1. Form the clay into round balls.
2. Use your thumb, push it in the center.
3. Rotate it at the center and continue pinching the clay until you get the
desired shape.
4. Start designing your pot using the tip of the pencil. You can use the tattoo
designs of Kalinga or the other different patterns in Ilocos and Cordillera
province textile as inspiration.
5. Take a picture of yourself holding the finished product.
6. Paste the picture in your MAPEH activity notebook.
