In December, 2019 in Wuhan, Hubei Province, China, a new, unknown virus found named Severe acute
respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) which is called covid19. The virus has spread rapidly to
other countries around the world, among which the most affected were Italy, Spain and the United
States.

As a result, in March 2020 The WHO has declared the new coronavirus epidemic a global
pandemic.

The first case of Covid-19 in Bangladesh was detected on 8 March 2020. The COVID-19 pandemic has
affected all areas of human life - health, social and economic. The COVID-19 pandemic is having an
adverse impact on Bangladesh's economy by affecting millions of people's life and hampering their
income sources.The outbreak of COVID-19 has created more pressure on the labor market. The
pandemic reduces employment opportunities as most of the companies have stopped their recruitment
process, postponed job exam and excluded some of their existing employee to cut their operational
costs, which increases the rate of unemployment in Bangladesh

.The COVID-19 pandemic affected world economics, including the pharmaceutical sector.

COVID-19 has created century’s a huge opportunity for pharmaceutical industry; as it increases the
demand for prescription medicines, vaccines and medical devices

Pharmaceutical sectors are struggling to maintain natural market flow due to increase demand. So, Due
to this pandemic, the profitability of pharmaceutical sector is climbed. But, lockdowns, in during the
early days of COVID-19 pandemic, led to restriction of in-country and cross border movements; this had
a huge impact on how pharmaceutical supplies are transported and delivered during the period. There
can be some long term impact on pharmaceutical sector due to this pandemic

In general, research objectives describe what we expect to achieve by a project.

Research objectives describe concisely what the research is trying to achieve. They summarize the
accomplishments a researcher wishes to achieve through the project and provides direction to the
study. A research objective must be achievable,
The pharmaceutical industry plays a pivotal role in the provision of quality healthcare services,especially
during pandemics, when medicines supply chain can be overwhelmed or shut down due to varying
reasons. These include, over-reliance on traditional manufacturing and distribution routes such as China
and India,

The aim of this study is to examine the impact of covid19 on the profitability of

pharmaceutical industry in Bangladesh. The specific objectives of the study are given below:

1. To know the difference on profitability of pharmaceutical industry before covid19 and during covid19

2. To know the relationship between profitability measures of pharmaceutical industry

with the macro economic variables due to covid19( infected cases and death cases of COVID19)
