4. Computing Sales and Profit

“Increased sales means increased income” this implies that we need
to know the status of our product by way of determining the sales and its profit.
a. Sales - number of goods sold in a 3given targeted time period.

To determine the sales, add all the daily sales.

Example 1. These are the following sales of Mr. Mangindo for a week.
Compute the total sales.

Days Sales
Monday Sales Php 3,000.00
Tuesday Sales Php 2,000.00
Wednesday Sales Php 3,000.00
Thursday Sales Php 1,000.00
Friday Sales Php 2,500.00
Saturday Sales Php 1,500.00
Sunday Sales Php 3,000.00
Total Sales Php 16,000.00

The total sales of Mr. Mangindo for the week is Php 16,000.00.

b. Profit

To compute the profit, use the formula:

Profit = Total Sales – Total Expenses

Example 2. Tope sells munchkins in the school. His total sales of the week is
Php 405.00. The total expenses is Php 257.50. Compute the profit.
Formula:

Profit = Total Sales – Total Expenses

Given: Total Sales = Php 405.00
Total Expenses = Php 257.50
Solution:
Total Sales – Total Expenses = Profit
Php 405.00 – Php 257.50 = Php 147.50

Tope’s profit for the week is Php 147.50
