EXPERIMENTS AND ITS EXPLANATION

1. NR load flow analysis using MATLAB program

This test uses Newton Raphson load flow analysis for the estimation of missing components
of the power system. Every current and voltage values are changed over to their relating per
unit regard. Correction vector for the progression of power is determined from Jacobian
matrix and mismatch vectors. In Matlab software, quantities like induction, impedance,
conductance and any other remaining too must be initialised as an input information.
Moreover with the contribution of important pieces of information like bus value and
jacobian expressions, estimation of voltage and load values of the specified buses can be
achieved through simulation.
2. Short circuit analysis using ETAP Software

The main objective of this experiment is to analyse transient stability under different fault
conditions for SMIB system using graph. Equal area criteria is used to ensure load angle and
fault clearing time in such a way that decelerating area is greater than or equal to accelerating
area to make system stable. MATLAB code is written and values(as per problem) are fed like
Generator output power(p.u),Generator emf(p.u), Infinite bus-bar voltage(p.u),Reactances
before, during and after fault(p.u).Then, critical clearing angle and time are obtained , also
swing (power-angle) curve has been plotted.

3. MATLAB solution of Swing equation by Equal Area Criterion

The essential objective of this investigation is to analyse transient strength under different
lacking conditions for SMIB system. Equal area criterion is used to ensure load point and
fault clearing time. Primarily, we will investigate the 3 phase fault towards one side of the
transmission system, followed by the analysis of fault at the centre of the transmission lines.
Equal area criterion is used to ensure load angle and fault clearing time in order to turn out
decelerating area more prominent or equivalent when comparing with accelerating region to
make the system stable enough. With the help of MATLAB, swing curve can be achieved by
obtaining critical clearing time and angle as a result.

4, Determination of IDMT Characteristics of Electromechanical type over current relay

In this test we will decide the IDMT nature of electromagnetic type overcurrent relay. By
changing the time setting multiplier and plug setting multiplier, the desired operating time of
relay can be achieved. At the instance of TMS= 0.5, operating time of relay becomes half
when comparing with operating time of relay at TMS = 1. Fault current and operating time
turns out to be inversely proportional and as time passes by it becomes constant. Estimation
of tripping time can be achieved with the help of stop clock. At last, IDMT characteristics are
plotted with the help of values obtained practically and manually.

5. Measurement and analysis of High Voltage DC generation using Cockroft Walton

Voltage Multiplier test kit with and without load

In this analysis we will investigate the impact of load utilized on Dc output voltage which in
turn helps us to understand its effect during no load and full load condition as well. Here we
will utilize the cockroft walton voltage multiplier and transformer with tappings in order to
test the insulation capability. Presently the transformer is tapped under 60V to keep up the
progression of equivalent voltages. Input voltage will be of sinusoidal in nature (i.e) AC
which then will end up in yielding with Dc.

6. LIGHTNING IMPULSE VOLTAGE WITHSTAND TEST ON 11KV PIN/ DISC

TYPE INSULATORS:

Here we will direct a constant lightning impulse withstanding test on 11KV pin or disc type
insulators to examine the waveforms obtained during the output. The test is initiated by the
set up organised with the help of lightning impulse voltage generator. in the initial step we
will supply the air Ac supply from the primary side to the impulse generator and high voltage
DC is provided to the sphere gap. This test intakes 15 impulses of 75KV peak value in 1.2
microseconds and more than two flashovers are not recommended. At times the insulator will
be dismissed just when two abnormalities over an aggregate of 15 impulses as it goes away
from the standard wave shape.

7. SWITCHING IMPULSE VOLTAGE WITHSTAND TEST ON 11KV PIN/ DISC

TYPE INSULATORS:

Here we will experiment with the help of switching impulse withstanding test on 11KV pin
or disc type insulators to examine the waveforms obtained during the output. The test is
initiated by the set up organised with the help of switching impulse voltage generation. This
test intakes 15 impulses of 75KV peak value in 25 microseconds and more than two
flashovers are not recommended. By making use of front and tail end of resistors, it ensures
the reaching of half and full peak value respectively. At times the insulator will be dismissed
just when two abnormalities over an aggregate of 15 impulses as it goes away from the
standard wave shape.
