Introduction
In this experiment, we will be investigating if there is a relationship between lenses and
the focal length, which is the distance of the principal focus from the lens.
Research question
● What is the relationship between the lenses and the focal length?
Objective
Our objective is to investigate the relationship between the lenses and the focal length.
Hypothesis
We expect no change in the focal length when we change the distance between the
lens and the object.
Method of procedure
1. Set up the set up (see fig 1.1)
2. Measure the length between the object and lens
3. Move the screen until the image if focused
4. Measure the distance between the lens and the screen
𝑢𝑣
5. Calculate f using the following equation: 𝑓 = (𝑢 +𝑣)
6. Repeat the procedure from 1 - 5 but using different distances
As stated in my hypothesis, the focal length will not change when the distance between
the object and lens is increased or decreased. This can be proved by the results we
obtained from the experiment.
Conclusion
In conclusion, we saw that changing the distance between the lenses and object did not
affect the focal length.
