1. Three concentric metallic spherical shells of radii R, 2R, 3R, are given charges Q1 , Q2 , Q3 ,
respectively. It is found that the surface charge densities on the outer surfaces of the shells are
equal. Then, the ratio of the charges given to the shells, Q1 : Q2 : Q3 , is (2)

2. What is the flux due to electric field 3 x 10 3 i N/C through a square of side 10cm, when it is
held normal to E? (2)

3. Two charged particles having charge each are joined by an insulating string of length 1 m and
the system is kept on a smooth horizontal table. Find the tension in the string(2)

4. The electrostatic force between charges of 200µC and 500µC placed in free space is 5 gf.
Find the distance between the two charges. Take g = 10ms -2. (2)

5. Given a uniform electric field x 10 3NC-1, find the flux of this field through a square of 10cm
on a side whose plane is parallel to the YZ-plane. What would be the flux through the same
square if the plane makes an angle of 30o with the X-axis?(3)

6. Point charges having values= 0.1 µC,0.2 µC,-0.3 µC and-0.2 µC are placed at the corners A,
B, C and D respectively of a square of side one meter. Calculate the magnitude of the force on
a charge of +1 µC placed at the centre of the square.(3)

7. A 12 µC charge is placed at the distance of 10 cm from a linear charge of 100 µC uniformly


distributed once the length of 10 cm . Find the force on 12 µC charge.(3)

8. Three capacitors, each of capacitance C = 3 µF, are connected as shown in the figure. The
equivalent capacitance between points P and S is (2)

9. Calculate the potential difference and the energy stored in the capacitor C2 in the circuit
shown in the figure. Given potential at A is 90 V, C1 = 20 µF, C2 = 30 µF and C3 = 15µF(3)

10. A capacitor of unknown capacitance is connected across a battery of V volt. The charge
stored in it is 360µC. When potential across the capacitor is reduced by 120 V, the charge
stored in it becomes 120 µC. Calculate (i) the potential V and the unknown capacitance C. (ii)
what will be the charge stored in the capacitor, if the voltage applied had increased by 120
V?(3)

11. A parallel plate capacitor with air between the plates has a capacitance of 8 pF (1 pF = 10-
12F). What will be the capacitance if the distance between the plates is reduced by half, and
the space between them is filled with a substance of dielectric constant 6? (3)

12. What is an equipotential surface?A uniform electric field E of300 NC-1 is directed along PQ.
A, B and C are three points in the field having x and y coordinates (in metres) as shown in the
figure, calculate potential difference between the points.(i) A and B (ii) B and C (7 m)

13. Two charges 2µC and -2µC are placed at points A and B, 6 cm apart. a. Identify an
equipotential surface of the system. b. What is the direction of electric field at every point on
