GRADING GUIDELINES:
• There is NO extra credit.
• There are NO retakes.
• If a student has an EXCUSED ABSENCE for a daily quiz, the grade will
be excused (quiz will not impact their grade – positively or negatively).
• If a student has an UNEXCUSED ABSENCE for a daily quiz, the grade
will be a “z” (zero) and the student CANNOT make up the grade.
• As this is a college class, late work will not be accepted unless the
student has an EXCUSED absence. In these instances, Mr. Chumbley
will follow district policies.
• Each grade in this course is placed into the four grading categories
(listed below). Each category is weighted equally (25% each).
• If a student misses a graded in-class activity for an EXCUSED absence,
they will either receive the grade of their group OR the assignment will be
excused (there is no retake). If it is an UNEXCUSED absence, they will be
given a make-up assignment to complete individually.

Learning Resources:

Mr. Chumbley will be posting his instructional resources and most of his
assignments on Schoology. It is imperative that students check Schoology
daily.
PROFESSIONALISM:
As part of preparing for adulthood, it is imperative that students develop
and cultivate a professional persona. This means that students always attend
class on time, adhere to all policies, are respectful, act with integrity, and
always put their best foot forward. In any instance where there is a repeated
problem, Mr. Chumbley will contact the parents/guardians. If this behavior
continues after Mr. Chumbley has attempted to make contact with the
parents/guardians, students will receive a disciplinary referral.

RESTROOM POLICY:
Students should avoid using the bathroom during class time because
this is a challenging class. Students will be permitted to use the bathroom in
the case of an emergency. However, they are not permitted to use the bathroom
during an assessment. If they choose to go to the bathroom during an
assessment, they will have to take a different version of the exam late. If Mr.
Chumbley suspects a relationship between frequent bathroom usage and low
grades in the course, he will contact the parents to discuss solutions.

ACADEMIC MISCONDUCT POLICY:

If a student is even suspected of cheating, they will receive a documented
warning, Mr. Chumbley will attempt to contact the parent, and the student will
have to redo a different version of the assignment. For each subsequent
instance, the student will receive an automatic 0. What counts as a suspicious
activity is up to the discretion of Mr. Chumbley – this includes having a
prohibited electronic device on your person during an assessment, looking in
the general direction of another student’s assessment, discussing the
assessments outside of class, etc. If a student plagiarizes, they will receive a
zero. If two students submit the same or very similar assignments – this counts
as plagiarism. Both students will receive a 0.

TECHNOLOGY USAGE POLICY:

Mr. Chumbley allows students to use their cell-phones in class to access
the instructional materials/assessments. However, if Mr. Chumbley notices
that a particular student struggles to stay on task, it is up to his discretion to
take their cell phone during that class period and/or future classes. In these
cases, he will provide the student with an alternative manner of accessing the
course materials. Additionally, students can only listen to music during
independent work, at a low volume with only one headphone.
AICE EXPECTATIONS:
The list below is not an exhaustive list of all the expectations of an AICE
student; it rather emphasizes the most important ones.
• Home learning: Mr. Chumbley crafts his course so that students have
more time to engage in the most challenging content during class time.
Therefore, he will assign homework with the aim of teaching and/or
reinforcing ideas outside of class time. This content will also be assessed
on quizzes/exams. The AICE standardized exam for this course requires
students to remember a lot of content. Students should be reviewing
their notes daily to avoid cramming at the end of the year. Home learning
might look like reading a study, watching instructional videos,
completing an assignment, or studying for upcoming assessments.
• A “growth intelligence” mindset: It is essential that all students believe
that they are capable of success in this course. You will only begin to fail
when you think this course is too challenging. This is not a course that
can be challenging at times; it takes hard work and perseverance, NOT a
“high IQ.”
• Whole group goals: Psychology is a course that is multi-faceted and
requires the synthesis of multiple modes of learning, therefore it is
essential that students work in groups to answer questions and develop
an inquiring mind-set. To support these group goals, Mr. Chumbley will
be assigning group assignments and assessments. It is the
recommendation of Mr. Chumbley that students communicate with one
another during and outside of class time support one another.
• Self-advocacy: There will be many times throughout the course of this
year that material will seem challenging, and you might require
additional assistance. It is therefore important that you come to Mr.
Chumbley, or a peer, as soon as you have any issues with the content.
SUPPLIES NEEDED:
1) An organizational system, from one of three options:
a. A spiral/composition notebook and folder(s).
b. A binder with dividers.
c. An electronic note-taking device that allows drawing/annotation.
2) Personal electronic device is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
3) Different colored pens OR highlighters.
4) Expo markers (donation)

Please choose two study partners from this class who will provide
clarification on a homework problems or notes when absent. These students
