 Use  of  Has,  Have  &  Had

Have/Has   Had   Had  
 Meaning:    

Have  simply  means  to  possess  something.  


When  it  is  used  as  a  main  verb  it  shows  the  possession  of  something.  

For  Example:  

§ She  has  a  house.  =  (She  owns  a  house.)  


When  it  is  used  as  an  auxiliary  or  helping  verb  it  shows  the  completeness  of  an  action  ,forming  a    
perfect    tense.  

For  Example:  

She  has  bought  a  house.  =  (A  house  has  been  bought.)  

     Use  of    Has,  Have                      

These  verbs  (has,  have)  are  used  to  show  the  possession  of  something,  in  the  present  tense.  

For  Example:  

v I  have  four  brothers.  


v They  have  a  cow.  
v She  has  a  chicken.  
v The  policeman  has  a  gun.  

Usage:

Has   He,  she,  it  or  any  singular  noun  
Have     I,  we,  they,  you  or  any  plural  noun

Note:    

  We  can  also  use  “have  got”  in  place  of  have,  when  “have”  is  used  to  show  possession.  

For  Example:  

v I  have  three  children.  =  (  I  have  got  three  children.)    

Structure                      

1. Affirmative  Sentences:  

Subject  →  has/have  →  noun.    

             Verb                                Possession  

For  Example:  

¯ They  have  bullets  in  the  gun.  


¯ She  has  a  dog  in  her  house.  
2. Negative  Sentences:  

Subject  +do/  does  →  have  →  noun.    

             Verb                                                    Possession  

For  Example:  

¯ They  do  not  have  bullets  in  their  gun.  


¯ She  does  not  have  any  dog  in  her  house.  
3. Interrogative   Sentences:  

Do/  does  →  Subject    →  have  →  noun?  

                  Verb                          Possession  

For  Example:  

¯ Do  they  have  bullets  in  their  gun?  


¯ Does  she  have  any  dog  in  her  house?  

*  Use  of  Had  *    


This  verb  (had)  is  used  to  show  the  possession  of  something,  in  the  past  tense.

For  Example:  

v I  had  four  houses.  


v They  had  a  cow.
