2. In the table below, write the name of the labeled component in the image in number 1,
then describe the use of the component/part. Also, in the Use column, identify what
component to insert. See the sample below.

Component of Motherboard Use

1. Memory Slot In the memory slot, is where to insert the
memory module or RAM, for example,
DIMM. The memory transfer data is 64 bits if
it is DIMM.
2. Power Connector Power connectors are devices that allows an
electrical current to pass through it for the
exclusive purpose of providing power to a
device
3. IDE Connector IDE refers to the types of cables and ports
used to connect some hard drives and optical
drives to each other and to the motherboard.
4. Floppy Drive Connector Floppy connectors are used to transfer data
between a floppy drive and a computer via
motherboard, in order to use a floppy disk.
5. Southbridge an Intel chipset that manages the basic forms of
input/output ( I/O ) such as Universal Serial
Bus ( USB ), serial , audio, Integrated Drive
Electronics ( IDE ), and Industry Standard
Architecture ( ISA ) I/O in a computer.
6. CMOS Backup Battery The CMOS battery powers your laptop's BIOS
firmware, which is responsible for booting up
your computer and configuring data flow.
7. PCI Slot A PCI slot is a built-in slot on a device
that allows for the attachment of various
hardware components such as network cards,
modems, sound cards, disk controllers and
other peripherals.
8. Northbridge an Intel chipset that communicates with the
computer processor and controls interaction
with memory, the Peripheral Component
Interconnect (PCI) bus, Level 2 cache, and all
Accelerated Graphics Port (AGP) activities.
Northbridge communicates with the processor
using the frontside bus (FSB).
9. PCIe Slot allow your motherboard to connect with your
PC's most critical components and provide key
functionality. They also supply you with
numerous customization and upgrade options
when you're ready to venture beyond preloaded
features like graphics and storage.
10. LAN Ports A LAN port, also known as a network port or
network connection, is a socket used to connect
computers, servers, video game consoles, and
other devices to the internet.
11. Audio Ports Audio ports are used to connect all the audio
devices such as speakers, headphones,
microphones, and other devices of this nature
to the computer. One can find various different
ports on the rear I/O of a PC motherboard that
is dedicated to different functions.
12. USB Ports SB ports allow USB devices to be connected to
each other with and transfer digital data over
USB cables. They can also supply electric
power across the cable to devices that need it.
13. PS2 (Mouse and Keyboard) The PS/2 (Personal System/2) port, also
referred to as the mouse port or keyboard port,
was developed by IBM. It is used to connect a
computer mouse or keyboard to an IBM
compatible computer. The PS/2 port is a
mini DIN plug containing six pins and is still
sometimes found on all IBM compatible
computers.
14. CPU Socket CPU socket or CPU slot contains one or more
mechanical components providing mechanical
and electrical connections between a
microprocessor and a printed circuit board
(PCB). This allows for placing and replacing the
central processing unit (CPU) without soldering.
