Topic: Opening of Face to Face classes for school year 2022-2023
Introduction
The COVID-19 pandemic has affected the globe in various ways. Everyday
lives become affected especially education have all changed, instead of the traditional
face to face learning, students and teachers have had to adjust to a new style of
learning due to a new normal, it is called distance or online learning but the
government’s Department of Education has come up with plans to conduct the pilot
implementation of limited face-to-face delivery in low-risk areas of COVID-19
transmission for January 2021, for a select number of schools, and in the case of
colleges, for specific programs and degree courses and its been approved by the
president. Face to Face Learning is where the teacher and the student meet in a set
place for a set time, for either one-on-one learning or, most commonly, in group class
lessons similar to what happens in school. This paper will seek to prove that
government and schools should pursue face to face classes, it will examine the different
advantages of face to face classes in students and teachers and its relevance to the
learning of the students especially in children.
According to headspace (2021), Face to face learning is a really effective way
to learn knowledge and skills because it often combines different ways of learning
including writing, reading, discussion, presentations, projects, group work, film clips,
demonstration and practice. There is an education principle that suggests how learning
can be maximized when more of the body’s senses are involved. This is the reason
why, according to this concept, students tend to remember and learn more if they take
notes, actively listening and attentively watching the teacher. Let’s face it, it really is
different to have to attend classes without being in a classroom. While online learning
has allowed for a semblance of normalcy, with students being able to see at least the
faces of their teachers and fellow learners, it isn’t at all the same as being physically
present in school, being in the same environment as your classmates But its still a lot of
argument about the resume of face to face classes. The parents are still afraid from the
risk of COVID-19, they think that it still not safe to go to school even there are low cases
in that area.
Argument
Face to Face classes, in my view, has to be pursue to continue. It is better to
have a face to face learning for students especially children. We need to accept that
today in modular learning, children didn’t even learn on that way of learning, sometimes
parent are the one who answer their module and for college student, how about their
future if their learning is on the screen, that’s why it is better to continue to pursue face
to face classes. There’s a lot of advantages that face to face learning has. Student be
able to concentrate harder on learning because there’ll be less distraction than if they
were at home. Being a student it is hard to learn in our houses because of noises and
different distraction like gadgets but rather we study we are watching. Another one is
Student can gain greater understanding, stories and real-world examples from teachers
and other students. We are face to face experiencing that and listen. Student may feel
more comfortable and learn more easily in a familiar, traditional classroom situation.
Student can access more information and richer understanding through teacher and
other students’ body language and voice and Lastly, student have the opportunity to
connect with, problem-solve, and network with other students from a wide range of
backgrounds.
There’s a lot of advantages that face to face classes has. Yes, we are afraid
about the virus but according to Manila bulletin (2021), There are already limited face-
to-face classes in the Philippines involving some 21,000 students from nearly 200
colleges and universities all over the country. Good news is, according to the DOH, the
rate of infection is very low — less than one percent among students and not higher
than 1.41 percent among teachers.
In a study of Kemp ( 2014), students are choose to have a face to face classes
rather than face to screen. There are reasons for which students might prefer more
traditional, in-class activities. Although social connectedness can be derived online
(Grieve et al., 2013), most students feel that face-to-face contact is essential for building
a sense of community (Conole et al., 2008), they want to engage in discussion in
person.
Conclusion
In Face to Face learning, students are held accountable for their progress at the
classes specific date and time. Face to face learning ensures a better understanding
and recollection of the lesson content and gives class members a chance to band with
one another.
