1/ AFTER-SALES SUPPORT

1.1/ Service Request

How to proceed when requiring After-Sales-Support for Amesys/Ben equipments :

- Try to obtain a full description of symptoms regarding the faulty unit

- Perform, or have performed, the simple test procedure described in the relevant form
(refer to page 4)

- Fax the filled-out "request for after-sales support form" to Amesys/BEN.

- Once we receive your fax, we will respond with :

♦ Cause of failure, if assessable based on your initial information, or instruction for further
testing.

♦ Service instructions if repairs can be performed outside our factory. Labour is not covered
in this case. Spares are supplied free-of-charge ex-works Marseille, if unit is still under
warranty. If no longer under warranty, spares are invoiced on spare parts price list basis.

♦ If repair is not possible outside our factory or if further investigation is necessary in house,
we will ask you to return unit to us for additional testing.

2/ TYPE OF MALFUNCTION

2.1/ Error Messages List

Any possible fault of log is detected by a permanent self test and displayed on the 2 x 16-digit
lines LCD screen (located on the right hand side of the Calypso).

Possible error messages are :

Measure fault :

This message appears in the event of a faulty analog component, or when sensor is out of
water (refer to page 6).

Defect Liaison Log :

This message appears after a transmission fault between the display board and the measuring
board (refer to page 7).

Transmis. Fault :

This message appears when there is no signal in log frequency input. Check main cabinet
connections (27 & 28) and transmitter connections (1 & 2).

Sensor current :

This message appears when there is no more current on sensor. Check the sensor (inductor)
connections (refer to § sensor checking procedure 11 & 12).

2.2/ Possible other defects

- Log displays systematically “0 knots” (refer to page 8)

- Log displays fluctuating speed (refer to page 9)
- Log displays lower speeds (refer to page 10)

Work to perform
- Check that current is cut off on the instrument and watch out not to put it
back on during the operation.
- Open the junction box and disconnect the sensor's cable conductors.
- Check that the link (10) is well fixed (well connected and not broken)
- Unscrew the 2 screws (9).
- Remove the sensor by pulling the sensor flange untill the link (10) is nearly
tight.
- Close the valve (4) with the flywheel
- Separate the link (13).
- Remove the sensor.
- Remove the circlips (15), the probe flange (8), the flat seal (7)
- Insert the new sensor, the probe flange (8), the new flat seal (7) and the new
circlips (15).
-Lubricate the sensor and introduce it in the hullfitting untill abutment.
- Connect the link (10)
- Open the valve (4) with the flywheel
When properly positioned, the sensitive surface of the sensor protrudes at least
1 mm from external bush, and the red mark on the head is directed towards the
bow.
- Screw the tue feathers (9)

DO NOT PAINT AND DO NOT GREASE THE ELECTRODES
