Due to the possibility of forward clutch hub overspeeding when there is a rapid transmission governor pressure loss, Service
Kit P/N 6883536 has been released to eliminate the problem. All MT-640,643,650,653 transmissions prior to S/N 49490
are affected. In the event of an overspeed condition of the forward clutch, the oriticed centrifugal valve unseats thereby
lowering forward clutch apply pressure enough to disengage the clutch. The valve is designed so it will not reseat until an
acceptable hub speed is reached. Production-built transmissions after S/N 49490 incorporate the forward clutch dump valve
feature.
To perform the conversion to the new configuration on units prior to S/N 49490 the above mentioned kit P/N 6883536 is
required.
Explanations of procedure changes and additions are listed in Instruction Sheet #99> attached. An illustration accompanies
the Instruction Sheet to aid in the conversion to the new conftguration.
All MT-644,654 model transmissions in Field Service incorporate the forward dump valve feature. They are serviced with
valve P/N 23010019, spring P/N 6882652, and plug P/N 688265 1 (all color coded blue) as related in Parts Catalog SA 155 1.

Instructions for use in MT-600 transmissions for modification to incorporate Forward Clutch Dump Valve Service Kit P/N
6883536.
Generai
Outlined below are the parts necessary for conversion to the new configuration:
Since this kit services all calibrations of MT-600 transmissions, the following chart explains the usage of the different Dump
Valve Assemblies:
CHART 1
Instructions:
NOTE2 All seals and gaskets removed during disassembly must be replaced.
1. Remove Torque Converter, Oil Pump and Front Support Assembly from the transmission.
2. Remove the Main Pressure Regulator Valve Spring (P/N 683453 1) and replace with new Main Pressure Regulator Valve
Spring (P/N 6880552).

CAUTION: Main Pressure Regulator Valve Spring is under approximately 65 pounds compression.
Use Tool, J-24459; to avoid personal injury.
3. Lift the Forward Clutch Assembly and then the Fourth Clutch Assembly carefully from the transmission.
4. Disassemble the Forward Clutch Assembly per Service Manual (SA 1317).
5. Remove the old Clutch Housing and Shaft Assembly P/N 6835752.
6. Select the correct Valve, Plug and Spring in accordance with the transmission governed speed. See Chart 1.
NOTE: All three (3) parts must be color coded identically.
7. Place Valve in the bore located in the new Forward Clutch Housing, P/N 6882634. Placing the Spring inside the Valve
and compressing the Spring with the Plug, align the Plug with the Forward Clutch Housing allowing the Pin, P/N
455734, to secure the assembly (Figure 1).
8. Rebuild Forward Clutch Assembly per Service Manual (SA 1317).
NOTE: Forward Clutch running clearance must be re-established per the Service Manual.
9. Remove and replace the old 4th Clutch Backing Plate, P/N 6834220, with new Backing Plate, P/N 6882659, again
following the Service Manual (SA 1317).
NOTE 4th Clutch running clearance must be re-established per the Service Manual.
10. Assemble 4th Clutch, Forward Clutch, Oil Pump and Front Support, and Torque Converter into the transmission per
Service Manual (SA 1317).
11. The letter “M” should be stamped into the transmission nameplate in the Part Number block to designate conformity to
the Dump Valve configuration.
