New governor drive gears are being production released to improve the durability of the gear slot. The
former gears utilize a “V” slot machined through the full thickness of the gear. The new gears utilize a
dead end slot machined partially through the thickness of the gear. Refer to Figure 1 for gear
identification. An output shaft assembly change is required in order to implement the new style gear.

The new gears are not direcdy interchangeable with the former gears.

The output shaft roll pin height on the former output shafts must be modified to accept the new governor
drive gears. Roll pins on the former output shafts were pressed into the shaft to a finished dimension of
.150-.170 inches (3.81-4.31 mm). Roll pins on the current output shaft assemblies are pressed into the
shaft to a finished dimension of .066-.076 inches (1.68-1.93 mm) (see Figure 2). New output shaft
assembly part numbers were not released to reflect this change.

When using the new gears with a former style output shaft, press the roll pin into the shaft to the .066-
.076 inch installed dimension.

Output shaft assemblies with the roll pin installed to the .066-,076 inch dimension can be used with the
former governor drive gears that utilize the slot machined through the full thickness of the gear.

MT 653 transmissions which have calibrations of 3200 rpm and above still utilize the governor drive
gear, P/N 6882733: The slot on this gear has not been changed.
