NAME: Marvia Belinfantie

SUBJECT: Biology

GRADE: Grade 9B

DURATION: 2 Weeks (October 5 - 16, 2020)

TOPIC: Classification

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES:

Week 1

1.  Define the following terms: classification, nutrition, taxonomy, Dicotyledon, monocotyledon,

prokaryote, excretion, irritability, respiration, reproduction

2.  Explain the characteristics of living things

3.  Explain criteria for biological drawing

Week 2

4.  Observe living things in the environment and draw selected organisms

5.  Group living things according to visible characteristics

CONTENT OUTLINE:

Characteristics of life

1. Growth - living thing develop and increase in size

2. Respiration - the cells in living things release energy from food

3. Irritability/Sensitivity - living organisms interact with their surroundings and respond to

them

4. Movement - plants move by growing, animals move from place to place

5. Nutrition - plants make food, animals take in food

6. Excretion - living organisms get rid of waste produced in cells

7. Reproduction - living organisms are able to produce new organisms

The major groups of living things are plants and animals. This is based on their mode of

nutrition.

Living things are further classified into five kingdom; Prokaryotes, Protoctista, Fungi, Plants and
Animals.

Prokaryotes – Bacteria

Protoctista – Amoeba, Paramecium

Fungi – Yeast, Mushroom

Plants – Mosses, Liverworts, Ferns, Conifers, Flowering plants

Animals – Chordata, Cnidarian, Platyhelminthes, Mollusca, Annelida, Arthropoda, Nematoda

MATERIALS/RESOURCES:

Computer, Internet, video, pictures, text book, miscellaneous items, plant specimen

ACTIVITIES:

ENGAGEMENT

Learners will be asked to observe different things in their homes. They will be asked to place

them in groups according to similarities and differences (visible/physical).

Learners and facilitator will engage in a brief discussion to determine why something is

considered living.(google meeting)

EXPLORATION

Learners will  read materials from google doc then define terms from objective 1

Learners will research information to explain the life processes.

Learners will explore their home surroundings  to observe organisms in their habitat and collect
specimens - a video or pictures show be done

Video will be used to show how organisms are classified in taxonomic groups. Discussion will

follow in comment section of google classroom

EXPLANATION

Learners will share/explain terms

Learners will construct tables to place organisms into groups based on observable characteristics

to present their findings from the compound exploration.

Learners will use criteria to draw the specimen collected.

ELABORATION

Students will create a slide presentation to show classification.

Make an poster/catalogue of examples of organisms in each  group.

EVALUATION

-          Answer questions on google form
