Unfocused questions lead to useless


information and time wasting.

Let’s take a look at the SBA Research Questions to help focus our
questions in the questionnaires.

REMEMBER:
 The SBA research questions and the questionnaire questions are
NOT the same thing.
 The SBA research questions are very BROAD questions.
 Your questionnaire must have very specific questions.

RESEARCH QUESTIONS:

1. To identify the areas in Business X’s Accounting process that were performed using
information technology before the Covid-19 pandemic.

2. To identify areas in Business X’s Accounting process that had to incorporate information
technology over the accounting period January 2021 to June 2021 as a result of the Covid-19
pandemic.

3. To determine the benefits experienced by Business X from using information technology in its
Accounting process during the Covid-19 pandemic accounting period January 2021 to June
2021.

4. To determine the challenges encountered by Business X in using information technology in its


Accounting process during the Covid-19 pandemic accounting period January 2021 to June
2021.

BEFORE designing your questionnaire.

TIPS TO CREATING FOCUSSED QUESTIONNAIRES:


a) Read the SBA research questions BEFORE designing the questionnaire.
b) Read the textbook materials BEFORE designing the questionnaire.
c) EACH Questionnaire should have a title and introductory paragraph
d) Questions must be numbered
e) Questions that have clear possible answers …provide those answers in
a list for persons to tick with a space below for “Other” for them to write
additional responses.
f) A questionnaire (just like an essay) has a beginning, middle and end.
Your questions must flow in a logical order.
g) Put opinionated questions at the end of the questionnaire to avoid
putting the person in a biased mood. For example the preference
questions and the reasons for the preference should be at the end of the
questionnaire.
h) MAKE THE QUESTIONNAIRE EASY TO COMPLETE…Provide lists to tick
and space to write (type) answers. HINT: using lists now will help you
later in the SBA Data Analysis.

EVEN MORE TIPS TO CREATING FOCUSSED QUESTIONNAIRES:


a) Use “questioning words” to form a question.
b) End a question with a question mark.
c) Where you want the person to choose one answer…say so e.g. “Please
choose only ONE answer below.”
d) Where persons can choose more options (e.g. in the
advantages/disadvantages questions)…say so e.g. “You may choose
more than one option where appropriate.”
