I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
1. Present knowledge about the Earth’s internal structure;
2. Explain the relationship between pressure and temperature;
3. Work cooperatively in groups.
D. Science Concept
The Earth has three distinct layers: the crust, mantle, and the core. The crust is the light
and the outer rocky layer of the Earth and is divided into two: the continental crust and the
oceanic crust. The second layer of the Earth is the mantle which lies below the crust. Next part is
the outer core, which is made up of a liquid, probably melted iron. At the center of the Earth is
the inner core which is composed of almost solid iron. As you get deeper inside the Earth,
temperature increases. As you get deeper inside the Earth, pressure increases.
B. Review (Elicit)
1. What is the size and shape of the Earth?
2. What are the motions of the Earth?
3. What are the effects of the motions of the Earth?
C. Motivation (Engage)
The teacher will going to prepare a simple set-up. She will ask the class to observe the
pictures which will be flashed on the screen. After that, she will ask questions about it.
Key Question: What have you observed on the images ?
D. Lesson Proper/Discussion
a) Pre-Activity
Explaining the rules/procedures of the activity.
Stating the precautionary measures.
Guide Questions:
1. What does the hard-boiled egg represents?
2. When you cut the egg into halves, what have you observed?
E. Generalization (Elaborate)
1. What are the three distinct layers of the Earth?
2. What happens to temperature when you get inside the Earth?
3. What happens to pressure when you get inside the Earth?
F. Application (Extend)
The students will be ask to label the Earth’s internal structure.
V. Assignment
Answer the following questions briefly.
1. What is diastrophism?
2. What is folding?
3. What are the types of Earth movement?
4. What is Continental Drift Theory?
5. What is Plate Tectonic Theory?
