DETAILED SCIENCE LESSON PLAN

GRADE LEVEL QUARTER/DOMAIN Week: 1-3 PAGE NO.

10 1 1

I.OBJECTIVES At the end of the lesson the learners will be able to:
1. Describe the possible causes of the plate
movement
1. Demonstrate the concept of convection current
2. Relate convection current and internal structure of
the Earth to the plate movements

A. Content Standard The relationship among the locations of volcanoes,

earthquake and, mountain ranges
B. Performance Standard Demonstrate ways to ensure disaster preparedness during
the earthquakes, tsunamis, and volcanic eruptions

Current- Continuous movement of fluids

in the same direction
Convection- movements of fluid in which
the warmer parts move up and the colder
parts move down

E. (EXPLORE) Discussing new The class will be divided into 4 groups, and they will do
concepts and practicing #1 an experiment about convection current.

CONVECTION CURRENT EXPERIMENT

Materials:

-Food Coloring/ Juice Powder (Color red and yellow)

- Four empty bottles
- Plastic card
-Hot water and Cold water
-Camera

Procedure:

1. Mix the food coloring (yellow) to cold water and

put into an empty bottle and label it as (COLD)
2. Mix the other food coloring (red) to hot water and
put it into the other bottle and label it as (HOT)
3. Put the bottle with hot water into a flat surface
and cover it with the plastic card.
4. Put the opening of the bottle with the cold water
to the top of the plastic card.
5. Remove the card slowly
6. Let it mix and observe what happen. Record what
happen.
7. Repeat procedure 1 and 2 again in different
bottles
8. This time, the cold water will be put on a flat
surface and cover it with plastic card
9. Put the hot water bottle on the top of the plastic
card.
10. Slowly remove the plastic card
11. Observe and document what happen to the fluid

Guide Question:

1. What happen if you put the hot water on the flat

surface and the cold water on the top of it?

2. What happen if you do the vice versa?

3. By doing the experiment, what conclusion can

you draw about convection current?

4. In what layer of the Earth does convection current

occur?

5. What do you think is the role of the convection

current to the plate movements?

F. (EXPLAIN) Discussing new The students will explain their activity and will be rated
concepts and practicing # 2 based on the rubric that their teacher provides.
(Leads to formative assessment)

The teacher will show a video to the students to elaborate

G. ELABORATE the concept of convection current

The teacher will give a 10-item multiple choice quiz to

H. (EVALUATE) Evaluating assess the learning of the students.
Learning

Each group will make a diorama of the ocean floor
