Purpose of research

According to the evidence provided by the Purdue University, A research paper is more than just
an informed description of a topic using primary and secondary sources. It is not a mere book report, an
opinion piece, an expository essay based simply on one's interpretation of a text, or a summary of a
certain topic. Instead, it is a genre that necessitates time spent researching and reviewing sources with
the aim of offering several interpretations. The purpose of a research paper is not to tell the reader what
someone else has said about a topic, but to draw on that information and engage the sources in order to
deliberately present a distinct viewpoint on the problem at hand.

Characteristic of Research

Regardless of the topic or research methodology, a successful research plan or report, including
a dissertation, has three essential features or attributes. These features include uniformity across the
components of the study plan or report, a logical trail of evidence, and reporting transparency.
(Newman & Covrig, 2013).

Differences between research and problem-solving

Problem-Solving Research
Problem solving is a process in which the Research refers to a process in which the
individual defines a problem, identify possible researcher attempts to answer the research
solutions and evaluates the solutions to find the problem that he initially creates by gathering and
most effective solution for the problem analyzing the data.
Not always scientific (sometimes subjective) Always scientific and data driven
In problem-solving, the process begins with When conducting research, there is a particular
defining the problem and implementing the process that begins with identifying the research
identified strategy or solution. problem and ends with analyzing the data to
answer the research problem so that a research
report can be compiled.

Kinds and classification of research:

Qualitative Research – subjective and more flexible. Qualitative research can be defined as the
study of the nature of phenomena and is especially appropriate for answering questions of why
something is (not) observed, assessing complex multi-component interventions, and focussing on
intervention improvement
Quantitative Research – objective. Quantitative research is a systematic investigation of
phenomena by gathering quantifiable data and performing statistical, mathematical, or computational
techniques.

Pragmatic – combination of the 2

Quasi Research and True Experimental Research - Like a true experiment, a quasi-experimental
design aims to establish a cause-and-effect relationship between an independent and dependent
variable. However, unlike a true experiment, a quasi-experiment does not rely on random assignment.
Instead, subjects are assigned to groups based on non-random criteria
