Design Approach (Biophillic design, Biomimetic design, origamic design, bioclimatic

design, etc.)
Concern (Climate-change, Energy consumption, Water scarcity, Specially abled people,
Peace/War, Disasters, Gender bias, etc.)
Issue (Battered women, Heritage deterioration, Flooding, Drug addiction, Illness, etc.)
Architectural Style/Movement/Theory (Parametricism, Post-Modernism, Art Deco,
Vernacular - Regional idioms, etc.)
Material Advocacy & Construction Technology (Bamboo, Brick, Earth, Steel, Concrete,
Ferro cement, Fabric, etc.)
Structural Exploration (Long span structures, Kinetic facades, Tensile structures,
Tensegrity structures, Floating structures, etc.)

6. 2. Brief explanation of the Theoretical Premise (1st in the Priority List) *

These biophilic design choices also boost the activity of the parasympathetic nervous system,
thereby decreasing stress levels and encouraging a general sense of well-being. By promoting
people's health, biophilic design helps to reduce sick leave, while improving satisfaction and
attention levels. Exposure to nature not only makes you feel better emotionally, it contributes to
your physical well being, reducing blood pressure, heart rate, muscle tension, and the production
of stress hormones. Also by creating indoor natural environment as well. A biophilic design may
first be considered or defined by its ambient qualities including light quality, sounds, air quality,
and temperature. The physical environment can cause or mitigate stress. This kind of spaces evoke
feelings of serenity and calm and decrease the stress of a chaotic environment.

7. 3. Brief explanation of the Theoretical Premise (2nd in the Priority List) *

Millions of people are dependent on alcohol, cannabis, and opiates, and drug misuse is a pervasive
phenomenon in our society. Peer pressure is a strong factor in starting to use and misuse drugs,
particularly for young people. So for that to generate awareness in society we can create
rehabilitation center in which we can create that environment for people who are facing this issues
and we can help them by providing proper treatments, healing facilities, some activities etc.. to
make their future better.

8. 4. Brief explanation of the Theoretical Premise (3rd in the Priority List) *

For biophilic approach to create healing environment along with indoor as well as outdoor space,
try to provide comfortable and functional elements which connects people socially and helps to
improve in their health. Also try to develop the architectural style that reflect he image of
Rehabilitation Center.

Rehabilitation Centre at Valsad, Gujarat.

13. 9. Intent of the project *

(For e.g. The projects seeks to act as a catalyst in conserving an intangible art-form by providing an
institutional platform for teaching-learning of the art-form).

Rehabilitation center have a tremendously positive impact on their communities. Rehabilitation is

care that can help people to get back, keep, or improve abilities that you need for daily life. These
abilities may be physical, mental, and/or cognitive (thinking and learning). You may have lost
them because of a disease or injury, or as a side effect from a medical treatment. By providing
healthy healing atmosphere to Break the Cycle of Addiction. They offer individual counseling,
group meetings, activities that allow for strong peer support to form, adequate nutrition during a
stay, and plenty of social services that put recovering people in touch with community resources
that will help them once they leave the facility. This kind of center helps communities to regain as
much strength, mobility, and function as possible after suffering from an injury, illness, hospital
stay, or other life-altering event like a stroke or fall and give proper treatment not to fall for
wrong step again which brings awareness in communities.

The environment should be create in such a way that impacts on addicted people which also try
to help in healing their issues and mental health. This kind of healing environment is defined as
one that has a nurturing and therapeutic effect. This show that well-designed healing
environments can reduce people's anxiety and stress, accelerate recovery, shorten
hospitalizations, reduce medication use, lessen pain, and promote a sense of well-being. By
creating healing environment in this kind of rehabilitation centre helps to recover patient easily.
Material should be use in such a way that is environment friendly and locally available and easy to
maintain. Also design in considering climatic conditions so it will be benificial to design
rehabilitation centre.

by the Ministry of Social Justice & empowerment for guiding and providing technical support to
93 Integrated Rehabilitation Centers for Addicts in the neighboring states.

48. 8. Explain the Project Brief / Proposal of Case Study 02 *

The idea of this project was to design a building that would have a therapeutic value, contributing
to the healing process of the drug addict. A balance was struck between the sense of freedom
and disciplinary control. The design unifying transparency becomes expressive of this freedom
and increases the physical and visual interaction, thereby reducing the isolated alienated feeling.
Even the main entrance is transparent. The transparency, the cut outs, the terraced balconies and
the seating, encourage the patients to open up. The small-enclosed landscaped amphitheatre
breathes light and joy in the building; it binds the various functions together, creating a much-
needed ‘sense of belonging’.

increases their depression and their craving. Therefore, the design attempts to create as much
transparency, openness and fluidity of space to help in the healing, correcting process.

the healthy functioning of life. Rehab centers work with a structured regime for every patient to
help them get back to health. By providing healing environment it helps to recover the addicted
people easily.

58. 2. Design Guidelines *

Do's & Dont's for the Design (Design Strategies, Palette, etc.)

While designing the centre try to develop environment in such a way that is benifical for both
way indoor and outdoor as well architecturally meaningful and also maintain its characteristics.
Design should be develop in a way that reflect the identity of cenre and has huge impact on
people who will come over for any tratements. Try to develop small details like interaction spaces
or any elements in such a way that encourage the people to recover the fast. Try to avoid chaoitic
things which hasisate the people over there.

59. 3. Additional details/information to be given

Architecture, landscaping and material of rehabilitation centre should be such a way that all are
connected with each other and gives the image of centre itself.
