We want to use a website matching the provided name and address. This is almost always a Company
Website (CWS) or a Social Page (usually Facebook but may also be Dianping, Ctrip, Practo if claimed,
Ekiten, Hotpepper, Gnavi, Tabelog, VK, OK).
Sometimes a business won’t list a phone number on their CWS, but they will on the social. Please go
with the number found on the social page, as long as there are posts within 365 days from the business.
We do not want to use phone numbers if they can only be found on Google/Bing or from unofficial
aggregators like Yelp (when the page is unclaimed), dandb.com, vitals.com, or various other low-quality
pages that may appear in search results. We also should use “I verified value should be empty” for
businesses that possibly never existed or can be verified as being closed. If a business doesn’t exist, then
there is no phone number where they can be reached.
Example: Mark L Gordon MD, 16661 Ventura Blvd, Encino, CA, 91436
(818) 990-1166 [found on unclaimed Yelp page and other aggregators]
I verified value should be empty
If the aggregator page is claimed by the business, then it can be used to confirm the phone number.
Example: Pretty Nails, 132 E Grand Ave, Escondido, CA 92025 (442) 248-6527
(442) 248-6527 [found on claimed page https://www.yelp.com/biz/pretty-nails-escondido-2]
It’s always better when the phone number is specific to the provided business. Many large businesses
with multiple locations will have general phone numbers for the entire chain, in addition to individual
numbers for each store.
Example: O'Reilly Auto Parts, 420 West Lodi Ave, Lodi, CA 95240 (209) 369-1988
(888) 327-7153 [found on https://www.oreillyauto.com/contact-us]
(209) 369-1988 [found on https://locations.oreillyauto.com/ca/lodi/autoparts-3477.html]
Some businesses do not have any phone number at all. If the business does not list a phone number on
their official website, social websites, or claimed aggregator pages, then you should select “I verified
value should be empty”.
Example: Corporation Food Hall, 724 S Spring St, Los Angeles, CA 90014
(800) 867-5309 [no evidence for this phone number]
I verified value should be empty
Some businesses may appear to have no number for a specific branch, but that doesn’t always mean
that the value should be empty. Some businesses will have general numbers for the chain, and those
should be selected if the provided location does not have a direct number.
Some businesses have multiple phone numbers, and it can be difficult to determine which should be
selected. There are a few general principles you can keep in mind to help make it easier to come to a
decision.
The local number is always better than a toll-free national number. In USA, these will have the area
code (800), but other countries will have their own formats.
Example: American Retail Supply, 16719 110th Ave Ste A, Puyallup, WA 98374
(253) 850-2247
(800) 426-5708 [both numbers found on https://www.americanretailsupply.com/]
You should select the primary point of contact for a business. For a car dealership, that would be the
sales department. The primary activity of this business is selling cars.
If the entity name indicates a department, you will need to make sure you select the phone for that
department, if a direct number exists.
If the department does not have a direct number, then the main number for the overall business should
be used.
If a chain branch location doesn’t appear to exist but there is a branch nearby in the same city, do not
validate that phone number (and do not validate the phone for a different business at the same
address). Instead, remove the phone because the location doesn’t exist.
Example: QDOBA, 12512 W Ken Caryl Ave, Unit C, Littleton, CO, 80127
(303) 948-2000 [this phone belongs to a nearby but non-matching branch
https://locations.qdoba.com/us/co/littleton/8246-w-bowles-ave.html]
(720) 981-7023 [this phone belongs to a different, unrelated business at the same address
https://locations.chipotle.com/co/littleton/12512-w-ken-caryl-ave]
I verified value should be empty
