FESTIVAL BAU NYALE

One of the most iconic festivals in Indonesia, the 2022 Bau Nyale Festival will be held again in Lombok,
West Nusa Tenggara. For one day, from 20-21 February 2022 the West Nusa Tenggara Tourism Office
(Dispar NTB) together with the Central Lombok Regency Government supported by the Ministry of
Tourism and Creative Economy held the first event of the Indonesia Calendar of Event (CoE) 2022, the
Bau Nyale Festival.

The Bau Nyale Festival is a tradition of catching sea worms which are believed to be the incarnation of
Princess Mandalika which is putri mandalika throws her self into the sea to avoid her capture by many
princes who wanted to marry her.

Tanjung Aan Beach and Seger Beach are beaches that are often used as the location for the bau Nyale
festival. Both beaches are included in the Mandalika area.

This tradition is motivated by a legend that is embedded in the hearts of the people of Lombok; which
is about the story of the sacrifice of a beautiful princess named is Mandalika. He loves peace very much
for all groups of people. He didn't want to disappoint the young nobles who put their hearts on him.
Putri Mandalika consciously chooses to throw herself into the sea, which then turns into "nyale" and
appears every 20th of the 10th month of the Sasak calendar.

The Bau Nyale Festival will be held throughout the night until the morning when the Bau Nyale (sea

Salah satu festival paling ikonik di Indonesia, Festival Bau Nyale 2022 kembali digelar di Lombok, Nusa
Tenggara Barat. Selama satu hari, dari tanggal 20-21 Februari 2022 Dinas Pariwisata Nusa Tenggara
Barat (Dispar NTB) bersama Pemerintah Kabupaten Lombok Tengah didukung oleh Kementerian
Pariwisata dan Ekonomi Kreatif menggelar acara pertama Indonesia Calendar of Event (CoE) 2022,
Festival Bau Nyale.

Festival Bau Nyale adalah tradisi menangkap cacing laut yang diyakini sebagai jelmaan Putri Mandalika
yang terjun ke laut untuk menghindari penangkapannya oleh banyak pangeran yang ingin menikahinya.

Pantai Tanjung Aan dan pantai seger adalah pantai yang sering di gunakan sebagai lokasi diadakannya
festival bau nyale. Kedua pantai tersebut masuk dalam kawasan mandalika.

Tradisi ini dilatarbelakangi oleh sebuah legenda yang melekat di hati masyarakat Lombok; yaitu
tentang kisah pengorbanan seorang putri cantik bernama Mandalika. Dia sangat mencintai perdamaian
untuk semua kelompok orang. Dia tidak ingin mengecewakan bangsawan muda yang menaruh hati
mereka padanya. Putri Mandalika secara sadar memilih untuk menceburkan diri ke laut, yang kemudian
dia berubah menjadi “nyale” dan muncul setiap tanggal 20 bulan 10 penanggalan Sasak.
 Festival Bau Nyale yang akan digelar sepanjang malam hingga pagi hari saat penangkapan Bau Nyale
