ROOFS TUTORIAL ASSIGNMENT: RAFTER CALCULATIONS


 The floor plan below shows the upper floor of a
rectangular structure, with a gable roof as
indicated by the dotted lines. The overhang is
900mm.
o Calculate the rise in rafter if the slope ratio
is required to be 5:12.

o If the overhang is 900mm, then find the
slope area of the roof (the Area-Rake
conversion table is seen to the left).

o After contacting a roofing company, you
are informed that a type of roofing tile
called ‘Luminary’ is estimated to cover 1m2
of slope area with 2.76 tiles. Estimate the
quantity of Luminary tiles required for the roof in the given image, with a wastage/overage of 5%.
