Module 3
Week 3
Most Essential Competency:
a. represents the absolute value of a number on a number line as the distance of a number from 0.
b. performs fundamental operations on integers.
Day 11
Objective:
At the end of the lesson students are expected to:
a. represents the absolute value of a number on a number line as the distance of a number
from 0.
Lesson Proper:
Example:
/x/ is read as “the absolute value of x”
Example:
Source:www.mathisvisual.com/integer-addition-symbol/
Remember: The numbers in the left side are called negative integers(-) and the numbers in
the right are called Positive integers(+).
And the distance between a number in a number line from each other is 1 unit.
Now we are going to find the absolute value of a number using a number line.
a. /-5/
b. /5/
1
Solution:
a. /-5/ Since it is negative we are going to the left starting with zero.
b. /5/ The number is side the bars is positive so we move towards the right starting
from 0.
Generalization:
In finding the absolute value of a number you disregard the sign of a number. No matter how
what is the sign of a number or how far it is in from zero.
Just like a person even that commit mistakes in the other and your value to them is -5 but in
the eyes of your family your value is 5. The eyes of your family are just like the bars in the
absolute value that see your worth.

Day 12
Lesson 6.1: Operation Of Integers - Addition
Objective:
At the end of the lesson students are expected to:
a. performs fundamental operations on integers. (Addition)
Lesson Proper:
I. Activity
The following are addition of integers with answer.
1. (+8)+(+5)=+13
2. (-2)+(-3) =-5
3. (-2) + (+5)= +3
4. (-5) + (+3)= -2
II. Discussion
What is integers?
It is a number that consist of signs.
Example
Negative Integers (-)
-1,-2,-3,-4,-5….
Positive Integers(+)
1,2,3,4,5,6…..
Addition of Integer
Example:
Add the following:
1. (+5) + (+2)
2. (-3) + (-2)
Solution:
3
In adding the sign numbers we follow the steps in using the line number system.
First is we count the distance of the first number or the first Addend from zero.
1. (+5) + (+2) The first number is +5 so we count from zero to the right since it
is a positive integers.
5 units
` Second is we add two more steps to the right since the second number or the
second ADDEND is positive.
+ 2 units
Third is we count the total number of the integers that is being add.
1. (+5) + (+2)= +7 or 7
Remember that a number with negative sign will move towards to the left.
4
Adding sign numbers with different sign.
Example:
1. (-5) + (3)
2. (8) + (-5)
Solution:
1. (-5) + (3)
In adding integers with different sign still we follow the following steps.
First is we count the distance of the first number or the first Addend from zero.
Since the first addend is negative we go to the left starts from zero.
-5
3
Thirds, we go backward from -5 since the second addend is positive 3, so the answer will be:
1. (−¿ 5) + 3= −¿2
5
III. Generalization:
1. If we add sign numbers having the same sign, add there absolute value
and copy there common sign.
Example:
Absolute value
1. (+5 )+ (+3)= +8 or 8
2. (−¿ 2) + (−¿3) = −¿5
Sign
Example:
1. 9 + (−¿ 6) = 3
2. 8 + (−¿ 10) = −¿ 2
IV. Quiz. Write your answer after the question and show your solution. Box your final answer.
Sum up the following:
1. 5 + (−¿ 5)
2. 2 + 3
3. (-6) + (−¿3)
4. (−¿ 8) + 6
5. 15 + (−¿ 11)
6
Day 13
Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, students are expected to:
a. Perform fundamental operation on integers.
Lesson Proper:
I. Discussion
Example:
1. (8) – (9)
2. 3 – (-3)
3. (−¿ 3) – (−¿3)
4. (−¿ 2) – (3)
Solution:
1. (8) – (9)
9 will change to -9
1. 8 + (-9)
Step 3. Perform the operation. Since they have different sign we subtract there absolute value
and copy the sign of the greater number.
1. 8 + (-9)= -1
It can also represent it with the used of line number system and it is shown below.
2. 3 – (-3)= 3 + (+3)= 6
4. (−2)−(3)= 7 (−2)+(−3)= −5
II. Generalization:
III. Quiz. Write your answer after the question. And box your final answer.
1. 5–3
2. (-2) – 3
3. (-1) – (-2)
4. 5 – (-3)
5. -6 – (3)
8
Day 14
Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, students are expected to:
a. Perform fundamental operation on integers.
Lesson Proper:
I. Activity
1. (−3 ) ( 2 )=−6
2. ( 3 ) ( 2 )=6
3. (−2 ) (−3 )=6
Answer the question below based on the example above. Write your answer below.
1. Why there are answer with negative sign?
2. Can you give the rule? In your own words.
II. Discussion
Ex. (3)(2)= 6
1. If we multiply sign numbers having the same sign the product is positive.
a. ( 2 ) (3)=6
a. ( – 2 )( 2 )=−4
b. ( 3 ) (−2 )=−6
III. Quiz. Write your answers in the space provided. And box your final answer.
10
Day 15
Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, students are expected to:
a. Perform fundamental operation on integers.
Lesson Proper:
I. Discussion
In dividing sign numbers we follow the rule just like the other operation of integers.
1. If we divide sign numbers having the same sign, the quotient is positive.
Ex.
−8
1. =¿2 negative divide negative the quotient is positive.
−4
4
2. =1 positive divide positive the quotient is positive.
4
Ex.
−8
1. =−2 negative divide positive the quotient is negative.
4
8
2. =−2 positive divide negative the qoutient is negative.
−4
25 −9
1. 2.
5 −9
15 −30
3. 4.
−3 6
11
III. Generalization
In dividing sign numbers just like dividing a numbers but you will consider the sign
of the number. The important thing is just follow the rule an memorize.
Division of integers is just like one of our attitude as human. We only see the one mistake
(negative) side of a person even thought that person done a lot of good things (positive) but we
just see he/her mistake towards us.
IV. Quiz
Answer the following ITEM and write your answer after each item. Box the final answer.
100 15
1. 6.
−100 −3
75 −6
2. 7.
25 2
−25 36
3. 8.
−5 −6
−50 20
4. 9.
10 4
−5 24
5. 10.
−5 −4
