THE RELATIONSHIP OF PRINCIPALS' DISTRIBUTIVE LEADERSHIP

TOWARDS PROFESSIONAL LEARNING COMMUNITY PRACTICES IN

GOMBAK DISTRICT SECONDARY SCHOOLS

ABSTRACT

Leadership in education state that it is a key factor in the development of a school. Thus,
leadership in education is now more focused on distributive leadership which emphasizes on
how to form a culture of leadership responsibility among leaders to assist in the
implementation of professional learning community practices. The local Professional
Learning Community is described as a local community that forms a culture that shows all
school children learn and become a learner. The study aims to identify the relationship of
principals’ distributive leadership towards professional learning community practices in
Gombak district secondary schools. The population of the study is 3189 teachers that working
in secondary schools across Gombak district. From the said population, by using the Krejcie
and Morgan table are 346 teachers are chosen as the research sample. The research
instrument used was a questionnaire using a Likert scale and the results were analysed
through the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) to measure whether there is a
significant relationship between the study variables. The research finding highlighted that the
level of distributive leadership practices of principals in schools were at high level. The
findings also show that the level of professional learning community practice among teachers
in schools also is at high level as well. Research outcome also found that there is a very
strong and significant a relationship between head teacher distributive leadership and
professional learning community practices among school teachers. Findings can also be used
as a basic guide by the district education and state education department as one of the things
that can be shared with leaders or other principals during the monthly meeting. It can also
give impact and show the parts the principals can improve and enhance. Future researcher
can expand their finding to primary schools, or focus on specific schools such as cluster
schools or high-performing schools. In addition, the study can also be extended to
Universities as well as colleges. The study should also be extended from one district to more
district or state and even to several specific states to the whole of Malaysia.

 HUBUNGAN KEPIMPINAN EDARAN PENGETUA TERHADAP AMALAN
KOMUNITI PEMBELAJARAN PROFESIONAL DI SEKOLAH MENENGAH
DAERAH GOMBAK.

ABSTRAK

Kepimpinan dalam pendidikan menyatakan bahawa ia merupakan faktor utama dalam

pembangunan sesebuah sekolah. Justeru, kepimpinan dalam pendidikan kini lebih tertumpu
kepada kepimpinan distributif yang menekankan bagaimana membentuk budaya
tanggungjawab kepimpinan dalam kalangan pemimpin untuk membantu dalam pelaksanaan
amalan komuniti pembelajaran profesional. Komuniti Pembelajaran Profesional tempatan
disifatkan sebagai komuniti tempatan yang membentuk budaya yang menunjukkan semua
murid sekolah belajar dan menjadi pelajar. Kajian ini bertujuan untuk mengenal pasti
hubungan kepimpinan distributif pengetua terhadap amalan komuniti pembelajaran
profesional di sekolah menengah daerah Gombak. Populasi kajian adalah seramai 3189 orang
guru yang bertugas di sekolah menengah di seluruh daerah Gombak. Daripada populasi
tersebut, dengan menggunakan jadual Krejcie dan Morgan, seramai 346 orang guru dipilih
sebagai sampel kajian. Instrumen kajian yang digunakan ialah soal selidik menggunakan
skala Likert dan keputusan dianalisis melalui Statistical Package for the Social Sciences
(SPSS) untuk mengukur sama ada terdapat hubungan yang signifikan antara pembolehubah
kajian. Dapatan kajian menunjukkan bahawa tahap amalan kepimpinan distributif pengetua di
sekolah berada pada tahap tinggi. Dapatan kajian juga menunjukkan bahawa tahap amalan
komuniti pembelajaran profesional dalam kalangan guru di sekolah juga berada pada tahap
yang tinggi. Hasil kajian juga mendapati terdapat hubungan yang sangat kuat dan signifikan
antara kepimpinan pengedaran guru besar dengan amalan komuniti pembelajaran profesional
dalam kalangan guru sekolah. Hasil dapatan juga boleh dijadikan panduan asas oleh pihak
pendidikan daerah dan jabatan pendidikan negeri sebagai salah satu perkara yang boleh
dikongsi bersama pemimpin atau pengetua lain semasa mesyuarat bulanan. Ia juga boleh
memberi impak dan menunjukkan bahagian yang boleh diperbaiki dan dipertingkatkan oleh
pengetua. Pengkaji masa depan boleh mengembangkan penemuan mereka ke sekolah rendah,
atau menumpukan pada sekolah tertentu seperti sekolah kluster atau sekolah berprestasi
tinggi. Selain itu, kajian juga boleh diperluaskan ke Universiti dan juga kolej. Kajian itu juga
perlu diperluaskan dari satu daerah ke lebih banyak daerah atau negeri malah ke beberapa
negeri tertentu ke seluruh Malaysia.
