Answer the following questions:

 What is the role of Communication Technology in Today’s Society?

 What are the basic parts of communication?
 What are the different manners of communication?
 Identify the latest trends in communication.
Technology

is the creation, adaptation, practice, and understanding

of tools, machines, and techniques of organization to
improve and find a solution to a problem to achieve a
goal and to apply an input and output relation to perform
a specific function.

Technology advances as economy rises. It influences the

values of a society and raises the efficiency of human
productivity.
TECHNOLOGY TRENDS

Digital Technology is becoming more

complex. Business, educational institution,
and government agencies discover that
ICT can be used in the following areas:
3D Printing

A 3D printer is a machine that can

print actual three dimensional models
and objects.
A regular printer can print images and
paper document, a 3D printer can
print anything from plastic action
figures to chocolate cakes, and even
school shoes.
To enable 3D design, you need a
software to make a digital model of
the design on your computer.
Cloud Computing

Cloud computing is the use of a web-

based service which will host all programs
that a user would need for his or her job.
Remote machines from other companies
are used to perform a task for your need.
In cloud computing, local computers no
longer do all the running of applications.
The network of computers that make up
the cloud handles all the tasks.
The local computer will just run the cloud
computing system’s interface software.
Your file can be found in the cloud other
than your own computer’s hard disk.
Smart Machines

Smart Machines are

automations. It makes things
automatic.
It is the use of complicated
sequences of actions in the
machine to make it automatic.
Smart machines are
programmed to do a task to
save time and effort from a long
process.
Mobile Apps

Mobile application is the process by which

an application software is created for low-
power handheld devices such as PDA
(personal digital assistant) and mobile
phones.
These programs are installed on phones
during manufacturing and downloaded by
the users from different software distribution
platforms for free or with a fee.
Applications or Apps use server-side or
client-side processing to provide an
application-like experience within a Web
browser.
Computer Technology

Computer Technology is the study of the

hardware, software, operating system,
and all factors that lead to the control of
the computer machine to do a certain
task.
COMPUTER HARDWARE

It consists of the physical

components of your
computer:
the parts, devices,
buttons, and ports that
you touch and physically
manipulate.
Internal Hardware

connects inside the

computer case.
They are the memory
chips, motherboard, and
internal hard disk. The
internal and external
hardware of the computer
are composed of the
following:
External Hardware or peripherals

connect outside of the computer case. The

monitor, keyboard, mouse, printer, and
external hard disk are the common external
devices.
Monitor

is also called the screen

or display. It is an output
device. It looks like a
television where the
computer displays text,
images, and other
information.
System Unit or console

holds the electronic chips

and devices that make the
computer work. The outside
of the case has the on and
off switch. The back part
contains all the plugs for the
different computer parts and
accessories.
Keyboard

is a typewriter-like
device that you use to
type information and
enter instructions for
the computer to
follow.
Mouse

is a hand-operated
pointing device that you
use to select or move
items on the screen as
well as to provide
instructions for the
computer to follow.
Speakers

are an output device. You

can hear sound effects,
music, voice narration and
other audio that your
computer creates. You can
use headphones if you
don’t want other people to
hear the sound.
Printer

is a device that you use

to print a document
from a computer. Some
printers are all-in-one
devices that can also
fax, copy and scan
documents.
Scanner

is a device that captures

images from photographic
prints, posters, magazine
pages, and similar sources for
computer editing and
display.
Modem

is a device that connects

your computer to the
Internet through telephone
lines or TV cable. Some
modems are internal. Internal
modem is inside the
computer case.
Surge Protector

is a device that protects

your computer from
damages caused by
power fluctuations which
are most often caused by
lightning.
Uninterruptible Power Supply or UPS

is a device that provides

temporary power to your
computer should the
electricity fail. This device
enables you to shut down
your computer properly
to avoid losing data.
COMPUTER SOFTWARE

It provides the instructions that enable the computer

hardware to perform the tasks given by the user.
Computer software comes in two categories. They
are:
Application Software

It refers to programs that interact with the

computer to perform a specific task.
System software

It refers to programs
that operate behind
the scenes to ensure
that your computer
systems function
properly.
OPERATING SYSTEM

An operating system (OS) is a collection of software

that manages the hardware. It provides services for
the computer program. OS is a component of the
system software.
Examples of Operating System
Android

is a Linux-based mobile
phone operating system
developed by Google.
Android is unique
because Google allow
users to download it for
free.
Microsoft Windows

is developed by Microsoft
Corporation. Microsoft has a
series of graphical user
interfaces that make it user
friendly. Windows’ recent
versions are not only for
personal computers, but also
for smartphones, server
computers, and embedded
devices.
OSX or MacOSX

is a line open core

graphical operating
system developed by
Apple Inc. It is a UNIX
operating system built on
technology developed by
NeXT. The latest version is
OSX 10.9.
iOS or iPhone OS

is a mobile operating system

developed by Apple Incorporation. It
has been extended to support Apple
devices such as iPod Touch, iPad,
iPad Mini and Apple TV. Apple does
not license iOS installation on non-
Apple hardware.
The user interface of iOS is based on
the concept of direct manipulation
using multi-touch gestures.
Linux

is a Unix-like computer
operating system created as a
free and open source software
development and distribution.
Linux also runs on mobile
phones, tablet, network routers,
television, and video game
consoles. Android is built by
Linux kernel.
