Living in the IT era

1. When you type the Web address of your favorite news Web site in the Address bar of the Web
browser, you immediately see an error message stating that the Web page cannot be displayed. You did
not have problems accessing the Internet yesterday. Before calling technical support, how will you
attempt to troubleshoot the problem?

Option 1

 If the procedure that corresponds to the operating system does not resolve the issue, go to
Wired and wireless network problems. The guidance that's offered there will help identify
network connection issues and run automated troubleshooters to fix the issues.

Option 2

 Windows socket is the program responsible for handling all the network incoming
and outgoing requests by program like Internet Explorer. If there is an issue with it, resetting it
can fix it easily. To do so, press Windows key and type cmd, right click cmd and choose Run
as administrator. In the black command prompt window, type the following commands
and press Enter after each:
 ipconfig /flushdns
 nbtstat -R
 nbtstat -RR
 netsh int reset all
 netsh int ip reset
 netsh winsock reset
 Reboot your system for changes to take effect.

2. When you return home to visit your parents and turn on your new notebook computer, it does not
connect automatically to their wireless network. What is your next step?

 Forget your Wi-Fi network and then reconnect to it If a simple glitch or bug is causing your
computer to not connect to a saved Wi-Fi network automatically, the following is bound to work
for you:
 Click on the Wi-Fi icon in the taskbar
 Click on Network Settings Under the Wireless Network Connection section, choose Manage
Wi-Fi Settings. Then from under Manage Known Networks, Click the name of your wireless
network and choose Forget.
 Restart your computer. Click on the Wi-Fi icon in the taskbar and click on your Wi-Fi network
from the list of available networks.
 Make sure that you check the Connect automatically. Click on Connect.
 Enter the security code for the network. Once your computer connects to the
network, its memory should be refreshed and it should connect to the network
automatically even after shutdowns and restarts.

3. While browsing the Web, each time you click a link, the link’s destination opens in a new browser
window. You prefer to have each link open in a new tab so that your taskbar does not become cluttered.
How will you resolve this?

 Use Ctrl-Shift-click to open link in new tab and switch to it. Also, Shift-click to open a
link in a new window. If you use a mouse, click the mouse wheel or middle mouse button to
open a link in a new tab. And Shift-middle click opens a link in a new window
