The brutal reality is that in a lean and small organization

almost impossible to overcome. We have lost three of

Although I would like to think I have the scope to

the brutal truth is the opposite. I had long

Market Uncertainties
Containerboard shipments are up 7.7% and 6.2% in the
first half of 2021 compared to the same period in 2019
and 2020, respectively. Linerboard operating rates
were above 100% in March 2021 and stayed above
95.7% on average during the first six months of the
year, compared to rates hovering around 88% in 2019.
High operating rates coupled with input cost
inflation has created tight demand. Recovered
paper (RCP) prices skyrocketed and the price of
papermaking chemicals, such as corrugating starch,
also increased. The challenges of collecting and
sorting RCP, primarily old corrugated containers,
during a global pandemic reduced availability.

continue to pose a hurdle for the availability of
recycled fiber in the short term. In the long-term, the
attractive export market for OCC and demand for
recycled fiber will lead to an equilibrium in OCC prices,
although it will be higher than the pre-pandemic
levels. About 70% of containerboard capacity consists
of recycled grades, contributing to a significant
increase in recycled fiber demand.

Ink Viscosity Control

Rheonics InkSight is a multi-station ink viscosity control system designed
to boost flexo print quality with automation and digitalization. Ink
viscosity is an important parameter in the final quality of the printed
matter. It requires close attention. If it is not correct, the flow behavior
and ink layer thickness will vary, leading to deterioration of print quality.
Poorly adjusted ink viscosity may cause excessive ink consumption and
unnecessarily high costs.
Optimizing viscosity is time-consuming, even for experienced press
operators. Viscosity automation and predictive tracking control results in
waste reduction and efficiency improvements. RPS InkSight ink viscosity control system, which recently won the 2021
FTA Technical Innovation Award, consists of three subsystems, a viscosity sensor, a predictive tracking controller, and
an intuitive graphical interface. It delivers color excellence through tight viscosity control. The Predictive Tracking
Controller and SRV viscometers enable tight control throughout the print
