Good day everyone!

We often heard the word "mathematics" everywhere especially in

school. Hmmm, students always talk about how they hate it! But, did you ever wonder
what's beyond mathematics? In this video I will give you a little overview of what
mathematics is.

What is Mathematics?

Mathematics is a subject that involves numbers, forms, facts, measurements, and

logical processes. Every aspect of our lives, including medical, engineering,
finance, the natural sciences, economics, etc., are greatly affected by it. The
universe of mathematics is all around us.

Where did Mathematics originated?

History of Mathematics has been an ancient study and is described by each part of
the world, in a varying method. There were many mathematicians who have given
different theories for many concepts, which we are applying in modern mathematics.

Greek mathematics developed and established mathematical procedures and enlarged

the idea of maths and the subjects inside it. The Pythagoreans used the term
mathematics and borrowed it from the Ancient Greek term "Mathema," which means
"matter of education," in the 6th century BC. Because we will never know who first
used the concept of counting, it is difficult to establish when it was initially
created or invented. We can presume that counting and mathematics were utilized to
build cities by the earliest civilizations.

The oldest known mathematical text was discovered in 1900 BC, according to history.
The Rhind Mathematical Papyrus, which dates between 2000 and 1800 BC, and the
Moscow Mathematical Papyrus, which dates to 1890 BC, are two further examples of
Babylonian mathematics. This one is known as the Plimpton 322. These publications
all deal with the Pythagorean Theorem, but back then, simple geometry and
arithmetic were also employed.

Who is the father of mathematics?

Mathematics is a historical subject. It has been explored by various mathematicians

across the world since centuries, in different civilizations. Archimedes, from the
BC century is known to be the Father of Mathematics. He introduced formulas to
calculate surface area and volume of solids.

When do we use mathematics?

We are actually using mathematics in our daily life!

It is important to consider how mathematics is used in everyday life, from the

moment one gets out of bed to the moment one goes to sleep at night.

Everyone uses mathematics in their daily lives, whether they are a farmer or a
cook, a carpenter, a mechanic, a shopkeeper or a doctor, an engineer or a
scientist, a musician or a magician, an artist or a tailor.

Why do we need to study mathematics?

Math improves our ability to solve problems. Math improves our ability to reason
clearly and analytically. Our capacity to approach a situation logically is what we
refer to as reasoning. We need analytical and reasoning skills because they enable
us to identify issues and seek solutions.

How can mathematics affect your college life?

A crucial tool in the design process is mathematics. Architects, builders, and

construction specialists employ it throughout the entire building process, whether
on purpose or accidentally, from planning to execution and finalization. Also, The
size, dimensions, and area division of the designed spaces are the primary design
elements that are founded on mathematical relations.

Mathematical subject are also imcluded in our curriculum, therefore, math is

essential for us to be an architect in the future.
