Cutting Room Activity : Fabric Spreading
Fabric spreading is a process by which plies of fabric is spreaded in order to get required length and width as
per marker dimension. This is a preparatory operation for cutting and consists of laying.

Description For Fabric Spreading

1. Operator is bringing the fabric roll from the different room.
2. Placing the fabric roll on the table making it ready for spreading.
3. Rolling out the fabric for spreading.
4. Taking the rolled out fabric to the end of the table to spread it.
5. Placing the fabric on the lay table.
6. Flattening all the sides of the fabric to make it even.
7. Checking the fabric to see the evenness and faults in the fabric.
8. Cutting the final rolled out fabric.
S.NO Activity
1 Operator bringing the fabric roll
2 Placing and making the fabric roll ready
3 Taking the fabric out of the roll
4 Travelling to the other side of the Lay with
the fabric
5 Laying the fabric on top of the Lap
6 Flattening the Fabric from all sides
7 Inspection of the fabric
8 Cutting the Fabric

IMPROVEMENTS

1. Cutting of the Fabric can be done before hand to reduce time.

2. Inspection of the fabric can be done before and after spreading.
Description for folding and Packing of the garment.
Packaging is an important part of the product, which has to receive a lot of attention to the people. It is concerned with designing & producing of
appropriate packages for a product.
After final inspection & garments folding, the garments are poly-packed dozen-wise, color wise, size ratio wise, bundled and packed in the carton. The carton
is marked with important information in printed form which is seen from outside the carton easily. Specially, it is needed to ensure the placement of sticker
in proper place.

1. Bring the final garments in the folding room.

2. Taking all the garments and placing it on the table for folding.
3. Before folding putting tissue paper in the garment.
4. After this, folding the garment with the tissue paper in it.
5. Checking all the folded garments wheather they are folded properly or not.
6. Moving all the folded garments to the packaging area for packing.
7. Checking the folded garments again to see the number of it.
8. Taking the folded garment and putting it in the plactic packaging bag.
9. Putting tapes on the packing packets with the folded garments.
10. Inspection of all the packets.
11. Counting the number of the packets and putting it in the box.
12. Sealing the box with the tape.
13. Inspecting all the boxes.
14. Counting the Total number of boxes for shipment.
S.NO Activity
1 Bringing the Garment to the folding room

2 Taking the garment Piece and putting it on the table

3 Putting tissue paper before folding

4 Folding the garment

5 Inspection of the folded garment

6 Moving the folded garment to the Packing room

7 Inspection of the garment

8 Taking and putting the garment in the packaging bag.

9 Putting Tapes and lables

10 Inspection of the Packets and lables

11 Counting and Putting the Packets into the Packaging Box

12 Sealing the Box with tape and labelling.

13 Inspection of the Boxes

14 Counting the Boxes

IMPROVEMENTS
1. Inspection of the folded garment can be eliminated and inspection can be done in the packaging room.
2. Putting garments into the packets and putting tapes on the packets can be done at the same time on the
same table.
Finishing process: Fusing a label on T-shirt
• Fusing is an alternative process of fabric joining which is widely used to attach interlinings. The fusible interlining consists of a base cloth,
which may be similar to that used for a sew-in interlining, but will carry on its surface a thermoplastic resin in the form of dots, which will
melt when heated to a specific temperature and pressure and flow into the fabric to make the bond.

• Not all garment fabrics can be fused, and there may always be some situations where sew-in interlining continues to be used, but in the
vast majority of garment making today, fusing is the most common process, the reason being both technical and economic. At present,
apparel manufacturing cannot be imagined without fusing process

Part of the garment to be fused is spread on a table

Resinated interlining surface is placed and applied required pressure and temperature

Resin coating of interlining is melted by heat into the fabric under pressure

It becomes cool and hard both the fabric and interlining is attached
Finishing room activity: Fusing a Label
S.No Activity
1. Operator opens the bundle
of the garment
components
2. Takes one component,
spreads it on the table
3. Evens out the fabric
surface using their right
hand
4. Picks up a label(resin-
interlined surface) from
the basket
5. Places the label on the
garment component
6. Uses a normal iron over
the label.
7. Puts the partially complete
component aside one by
one
8. Travels with all the
components to the Fusing
press
9. Now picks one partially
complete component

10. Places it on the fusing press

11. Removes the component

after Fusing is done
Steam Ironing a Full Sleeves T-shirt

• Pressing or ironing is the most important finishing process in the readymade garments sector which is done by subjecting a cloth to heat
and pressure with or without steam to remove unwanted creases and to impart a flat appearance to the garments. Pressing or ironing is
also done to introduce creases in the apparel. In the garment manufacturing industries, pressing is termed as ironing.
• Objects of Pressing or Ironing:
Pressing or ironing has different types of objects which are mentioned below:
1. Removal of unwanted creases and crinkles,
2. Shaping,
3. To apply creases where necessary,
