My things
Laura
I don’t need money at school, but I’ve got five pounds for
emergencies. In my wallet I also keep my bus pass, library card,
some photos and an electronic ID card for school. We use the ID
card when we go into the school and when we go into class. The
teachers always know where we are.
I don’t wear much jewellery or make-up at school, but I sometimes
take some with me. I’ve got a mobile phone, but we aren’t allowed
to have them at school. It’s against the rules.
Phra Pachak
In Thailand, young Buddhist boys usually
live in a monastery for one or two years
between the ages of eight and thirteen.
Life is simple in the monastery. The boys
can’t take their things with them, and they
learn that possessions aren’t important.
Phra Pachak has got two robes and he
doesn’t wear other clothes. He’s got a
bowl, a cup and an umbrella. He goes into
town every day with his bowl and people
give him food. It’s against the rules to have
jewellery, money and mobile phones in the
monastery.
