Celebration of Yoga Day

International Day of Yoga is celebrated with much fervour every year on June 21. Yoga is an
ancient physical, mental and spiritual practice that originated in India. It is celebrated for
students for creating awareness of importance of Yoga exercises. It is been demonstrated for
students for achieving physical flexibility and mental peace and sense of control through
Yoga Exercises.
Program Title: Safe Touch & unsafe Touch
Objectives of Program:
 The aim was to create awareness among school children on ‘Safe Touch and
Unsafe Touch’ on various forms of child abuse (physical, verbal or visual) and
educate them on how to get help for their personal safety from such abuses at
home, school or outside.
 They should develop an innate sense to identify good and bad touch. During the
session, they explained to the students what sexual abuse means by showing them
an animated video.
 They also shared, “To help & guide children, in case if they are facing similar
issues a “CHILDLINE – 1098” service has also been started,” they said.
 Teaching safe and unsafe touch can make a child sceptic about everyone, till they
learn to define their instincts and stand up for themselves. Better an extra ‘no,’ than an
adult convincing the child to blame self for being abused
Target Population:
From 4th Standard to 10th Standard
Highlights of Program:

1) Teach children the correct names of all their different body parts, including their
private body parts

2) Teach children “You’re the boss of your body”

3) Explain to your child that there are 3 kinds of touches

 Safe touches. These are touches that keep children safe and are good for
them, and that make children feel cared for and important. Safe touches
can include hugging, pats on the back, and an arm around the shoulder.
Safe touches can also include touches that might hurt, such as removing a
splinter. Explain to children that when you remove a splinter, you’re doing
so to keep them healthy, which makes it a safe touch.
 Unsafe touches. These are touches that hurt children’s bodies or feelings
(for example, hitting, pushing, pinching, and kicking). Teach children that
these kinds of touches are not okay.
 Unwanted touches. These are touches that might be safe but that a child
doesn’t want from that person or at that moment. It’s okay for a child to
say no to an unwanted touch, even if it’s from a familiar person. Help your
children practice saying no in a strong, yet polite voice. This will help
them learn to set personal boundaries.
4) Teach students the following safety rules:

 It’s not okay to touch someone else’s private body parts.

 It’s not okay for someone to touch his or her own private body parts in
front of you.
 It’s not okay for someone to ask you to touch his or her private body parts.
 It’s not okay for someone to ask you to take your clothes off or to take
pictures or videos of you with your clothes off.
 It’s not okay for someone to show you photos or videos of people without
their clothes on.
