Course At the end of the course the student should be able to

Objective: 1. Apply vector analysis to solve electrostatic and magnetostatic problems with an introduction to
electromagnetic phenomenon governed by Maxwell’s equations

Course At the end of this course the student should be able to

Learning 1. Determine length, area, and volume in three dimensional (3D) orthogonal coordinate system
Outcomes: (rectangular, cylindrical, and spherical coordinates)
2. Formulate vector representation of an electric field or electric flux density given a known charge
distribution or a potential field
3. Develop relationship between electric field, potential, and energy density (potential energy stored)
in the electrostatic field
4. Relate static electric or magnetic field in the presence of dielectric or magnetic materials. Identify
them across the boundaries of various insulating or magnetic materials
5. Find the capacitance and stored energy with one dimensional potential variation using direct
integration (Laplace’s equation)
6. Apply known magnetic field laws to quantify different magnetic fields due to direct current
7. Define physical interpretation of curl and divergence with application of divergence and Stoke’s
theorems
8. Determine the force or moment of force exerted by the magnetic field on other charges
9. Formulate point and integral forms of Maxwell's equations for time-varying electric and magnetic
fields and apply them to simple EM problems
10. Calculate R, C, and L by definition using field theory concepts
