Research Plan

A. Question or problem being addressed

Using electricity at all times is making our bills high. It consumes a lot of energy
and sooner there would be no electricity left. When using electricity there are times it
blows up. It could cause air pollution and fire. Its smoke contains chemicals that are
highly dangerous and harmful to ourselves and to our surroundings as well. The battery
is a tin full of chemicals that can produce electrons. (Muhlisin) there are many
challenges facing the development of batteries that can address environmental
concerns and stability with a prolonged life cycle to meet current demands. The
technology of batteries has evolved over the years. One promising technology has been
the use of biological tissues. (Nupearachchi, 2012) The problems associated with bio-
batteries are primarily related to the materials used to fabricate the battery electrodes as
well as the electrolytes. the recent past, bio- battery technology has been widely
optimized by the usage of new alternative materials such as tubers, yams, fruits etc. to
address energy and power demands by the introduction of different structural
modification. (Wickramasinghe,2012)

Bananas are commonly seen almost everywhere around the Philippines. They
are abundant and its peelings have no use and is thrown away. To prevent this, banana
peels to make electricity with the help of other materials such as mud or durian
pleelings. The battery fabricated using this particular material hadexcellent stability and
was able to light up an LED light for more than 500 hours if the electrolyte was
prevented from drying. Even the inedible banana peels which serve little economic
purpose are now being used as a constituent in super
capacitors. (Perera,2014)
